Thomas Philip, a 73-year-old resident of Woodridge, faces four counts of aggravated fleeing from police, as announced by the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s office.
Authorities claim that Philip was operating a vehicle without a valid driver’s license and lacked insurance coverage.
According to officials, the incident began when Bensenville police attempted to stop Philip’s gold Lexus due to an expired registration on the 400 block of West Irving Park Road.
Rather than complying, Philip allegedly accelerated away, recklessly crossing into oncoming traffic several times during the chase.

About an hour later, the driver was found in a Jewel-Osco parking lot located at 1127 S. York Road, police said.
Police tried to take him into custody. However, the driver allegedly “bumped” into a squad car and initiated the pursuit.
Police said Philip fled northbound on York Road, ignored multiple red lights before entering I-90 and ultimately making his way to northbound Interstate 294.
Chopper 7 was over the police chase on I-294 at about 11:30 a.m.
At one point, the driver was seen smoking a cigarette.

The chase came to a stop after police used two stop strips on the vehicle near mile marker 13, not far from the Wisconsin state line.
Video from Chopper 7 showed the driver being taken into police custody at about noon.

Philip’s next court appearance is scheduled for April 13. He was ordered to remain detained until then.
