The restaurant sustained multiple broken windows and damage to the front door. It resumed full-capacity dining by Friday evening.
LAKEWOOD, Ohio — Cleanup is underway at Angelo’s Pizza in Lakewood Friday morning after the restaurant in the 13700 block of Madison Avenue was struck by vandalism.
Images captured by 3News show multiple broken windows — including damage to the front door. You can see photos of the damage in the gallery below.
“Around 4 o’clock (in the morning), somebody came with a brick from one of the houses down the street and chose to smash the door panel and about four of these garage panels,” Angelo’s manager Walter Snyder said. “The panels and the door were pretty, pretty large, so there’s a decent amount of glass that had to be cleaned up.”
Signs posted at the restaurant’s entrance declared “PLEASE USE BACK DOOR,” with cones blocking off the front doorway. Nobody was hurt.
In a social media post sent out at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, Angelo’s announced that the restaurant has limited seating while its windows and front door are being repaired. “We apologize for the inconvenience and plan to be seating at full capacity by 4:00pm,” the post added.
For customer Denise Murtz, the incident was upsetting.
“People pour their heart and souls into their business, and that’s the kind of respect they get,” Murtz lamented. “I don’t think that’s very fair for them.”
Still, she said it wouldn’t stop her from coming back.
“We will continue to support them, and hopefully they bounce back quickly,” she stated. “And it looks like they already have because they are very popular.”
Snyder added that the business won’t let the damage slow them down.
“People do stupid things all the time,” he said. “There’s a lot of people that are just misguided, and it doesn’t reflect on us at all. And we’re back up and ready for dinner service, and we are ready to be fully packed.”
