When Brooklyn Beckham came out with an Uber Eats ‘pop up restaurant’ special, many scathing reviews slammed his collaboration with the food delivery app, as others called it a ‘mess’.
The same absolutely couldn’t be said of Maya Jama’s stab at a specialised menu – available to order online this weekend, from April 12 – 13 in London.
Each dish costs just £5 each – and offers incredible value for your money, with indulgent dishes like double-patty burgers, topped with luxury watermelon jam, up for grabs.

Our reviewers – representing your average clubgoer in need of grub – sampled the mouthwatering menu, which is made up of hits like a ‘warming’ Mac n Cheese with smoky Gochujang as well as a crisp and flavourful chicken Caesar Salad.
Highlights included the ‘decadent’ sticky toffee pudding, infused with coffee, and the ‘stunning’ Salt Fish and Ackee breakfast.

Maya Jama said: ‘I rarely get time off, but when I do, I love to simply sit back on the sofa, indulging in a little self-care and devouring a takeaway – and nothing helps me bounce back from a late one like it.

Looking at how well promised flavours are executed was a priority, as well as seeing whether the concoction presented made sense.

Gochujang Mac ‘n’ Cheese with Asian slaw, £5

‘The Asian slaw is also really tasty. Crunchy, tangy and well paired with a handful of spicy peanuts, it’s not even remotely soggy and is the perfect accompaniment to the stodgy (but delicious) pasta,’ Alice said
Verdict: Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by the mac n cheese. I often find when bought out, that it is a dish that can be susceptible to being a bit on the flavourless side, but this was really tasty.
While I wouldn’t say the Gochujang is particularly powerful, it is a nice background flavour to an otherwise really hearty dish that doesn’t overwhelm on the cheese.
It’s also nicely seasoned and expertly salted – an area that can easily prove a downfall for the dish.

Smash Burger with watermelon jam, served with curly fries in secret seasoning, £5

‘The curly fries had a spicy kick to them and I’m really unhappy that this is a limited-edition menu has a sell-by date,’ Maanya advised
Verdict: Everything about the smash burger was a 10/10 for me. The buns (brioche?) were perfectly fluffy, soft, and slathered with the most bizarrely delicious watermelon chutney that has given me a new appreciation for the summer fruit.
Each bite was packed with flavour and I basically wolfed that whole smash burger down in under five minutes.

Ackee & Saltfish served with a fried dumpling, £5

‘The saltfish was perfect and offered a soft and gentle savoury flavour thoughout, while the ackee (a national fruit of the Caribbean nation) was buttery and melted in the mouth,’ Elmira said
Verdict: This homage to Maya’s Jamaican heritage was a refreshing and tasty meal that truly hit the spot.
The saltfish was perfect and offered a soft and gentle savoury flavour thoughout, while the ackee (a national fruit of the Caribbean nation) was buttery and melted in the mouth.
Packed with two fried dumplings which had the best of both worlds, in that they offered a texture both bread and doughnut-like, this is sure to sort you out after a night of dancing and having a few tipples.

Caesar salad with griddled citrus chicken breast, £5

‘Most importantly, the star of the show – the dressing – was perfectly proportioned,’ Elmira expressed
Verdict: I’m a huge Chicken Caesar salad fan – and always find that I’m let down by delivery options because of awkwardly the chicken is cooked, or how badly it keeps when transported.
However, Maya’s Uber Eats special was absolutely sensational and I couldn’t stop tucking in. The citrus hit on the meat was subtle but very refreshing, and it was perfectly griddled.
The lettuce was also crisp and fresh (none of the wilted nonsense I’m used to from packaged salads!) with the croutons maintaining a perfect texture (toasted but not so dry and stale they’d take a tooth out). Most importantly, the star of the show – the dressing – was perfectly proportioned.
This was a faultless execution of a classic meal!

Coffee-infused sticky toffee pudding, £5

Alice said: ‘It wasn’t remotely dry and came with a generous helping of runny toffee sauce. The sponge itself was soft and almost fudgey in texture, a consistency I imagine it gets from the coffee’
Verdict: I was bowled over by the coffee sticky pudding. Though I was initially apprehensive about this given the unconventional addition of the coffee but this was perfectly paired with the sticky toffee flavour of the pudding.
It wasn’t remotely dry and came with a generous helping of runny toffee sauce. The sponge itself was soft and almost fudgey in texture, a consistency I imagine it gets from the coffee.
The pudding also came with a scoop of what I assume is vanilla infused cream which was light and airy and felt like a mixture between ice cream and cream itself. Overall a really tasty and decadent treat that I’d happily finish any meal with.
