Police say the 66-year-old man was taking care of his 6-year-old grandson when he decided to scare a woman in Westlake.

WESTLAKE, Ohio — A 66-year-old North Olmsted man is facing a charge of aggravated menacing after his attempt at some scary fun in front of his grandson in Westlake went frightfully wrong.

According to Capt. Gerald Vogel of the Westlake Police Department, officers received a call from “a frantic female” on Tuesday at around 7 p.m. The woman stated that a man in a “Jason Mask” approached her car and threatened her with a knife.

The suspect was heard to have said something to the effect of “let’s go,” before leaving on foot and hiding behind other vehicles and bushes. The victim also told police that the suspect had a small boy with him when he fled the shopping plaza on Center Ridge Road and King James Parkway.

Police found the suspect walking with the child near the area of Center Ridge Road and Dover Center Road. He was still wearing the mask. The suspect was taken into custody in the parking lot of GetGo.

In addition to wearing what was determined to be a “Michael Myers” face mask, police say Christopher Carey had a toy handgun in his pocket along with a plastic knife. Carey was apparently taking care of his 6-year-old grandson when he decided to play “a game” with the child.

According to a witness, the victim was just putting on her seatbelt when Carey approached the car and yelled at the victim through her window. The child was at the back, passenger window.

Carey was taken to the Westlake Jail and charged with aggravated menacing. Police took the child home to his parents who live in the area.
