ON October 3, 2023, Greg Fergus was appointed as a House speaker for the House of Commons, making him the first Black Canadian to assume the role.
As Canada welcomes Fergus into his new position, many want to know more about his private life.

Who is Greg Fergus?
Greg Fergus is a politician born on May 31, 1969, in Montreal, Quebec.
He received two bachelor’s degrees where he studied both international relations and social science.
He then went on to receive his master’s at Marianopolis College in international relations.
Fergus began his political career when he was elected as a member of parliament for Hull-Aylmer.
He then became the parliamentary secretary to the Minister of Innovation, Science, and Industry.
In March 2021, Fergus became the parliamentary secretary to Justin Trudeau, the Prime Minister of Canada.
He remained in this position until he was appointed as the House Speaker of the House of Commons of Canada.
This makes him the first Black Canadian to occupy this role.
During his inauguration, Trudeau said: “Today, you’re the first Black Canadian to become speaker.
“It should be inspiring for all Canadians, especially younger generations who want to get involved in politics.”
Who is Greg Fergus’ wife, Julie Cool?
According to her Instagram, Julie Cool is a “candidate for municipal elections of Action Gatineau in the district of Aylmer.”
Prior to this position, Cool worked as a researcher for the Library of Parliament but took a leave of absence when her husband was appointed.

However, she has always been involved in the Action Gatineau party.
She joined in 2012 and has been working to advocate for environmental protection.
Additionally, Cool was the president of the board of directors for Aylmer Secor Partners.
Do they have any children?
Throughout their marriage, Fergus and Cool have welcomed three children together.
Their eldest daughter Alex works in the environmental studies industry.
Ben, their second-born, has worked on urban planning with Gatineau City.
Lastly, their daughter Sarah studied history and art in college.
