Those in NSW could be given an extra day off this year to make up for the fact that Anzac Day falls on a Saturday.
Premier Chris Minns has said he is considering adding Anzac Day to the list of holidays that would be granted an additional day for when Anzac Day falls on a weekend.

In New South Wales, Anzac Day is recognized as a public holiday only on April 25, regardless of whether it falls on a weekend. This year, the commemoration lands on a Saturday.

This means workers do not get a day off on the Monday, like other holidays such as Christmas, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day, called an additional day.

“We’re considering making some changes for this year,” Chris Minns mentioned during an interview on Triple M’s Beau, Cat & Woodsy.

“In terms of public holidays, we are lagging behind other states,” he observed.

However, Minns emphasized that any decision would follow discussions with the RSL to ensure the essence of Anzac Day ceremonies and parades remains intact.

“I need to be assured that declaring a holiday on the following Monday won’t diminish the significance of the 25th,” he stressed.

“The 25th must remain of paramount importance,” he concluded.
