GEICO scam alert: $200 demanded to keep your policy active

() – The Johnson County Sheriff’s Office issued a warning about a scam.

According to a Facebook post, the agency has received multiple reports of a scam targeting local residents.

They say scammers are contacting people and claiming they have to send $200 to keep their current GEICO insurance policy. THIS IS A SCAM!!!

Law enforcement says if someone asks for money or personal information over the phone, email, or text:

  • HANG UP IMMEDIATELY.
  • DO NOT SHARE PERSONAL DETAILS (SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS, BANKING INFO, ETC.).
  • CONTACT GEICO DIRECTLY THROUGH THEIR OFFICIAL CUSTOMER SERVICE LINE OR YOUR PERSONAL INSURANCE AGENT TO CONFIRM THE STATUS OF YOUR POLICY.

Residents should be aware that the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office is issuing a reminder that genuine insurance companies do not request payments via unsolicited calls, emails, or money transfer platforms.
