William H. Macy made a notable appearance with his daughter Sophia at the premiere of their latest film, “Brian,” during the South by Southwest film festival on Sunday.

The father and daughter turned heads with their relaxed yet stylish outfits as they promoted the movie, in which they both have roles.

Later, the 76-year-old actor and his 25-year-old daughter attended the festival’s afterparty, where they posed closely on the red carpet, sharing warm smiles and nearly touching cheeks.

Macy exuded effortless style in a muted blue button-down shirt, complemented by a green leather jacket and dark jeans, accentuated with a brown leather belt for the event, which coincided with the 2026 Oscars.

Meanwhile, Sophia went for a laid-back yet trendy ensemble, sporting distressed jeans paired with a beige lace bralette and a white tank top that revealed a hint of her midriff.

Sophia is one of two daughters Macy shares with his wife, Felicity Huffman, who is 63. The couple also has a younger daughter, Georgia, who is 23.

Macy didn’t attend the Academy Awards this year, though one of his recent projects, Train Dreams, received four Oscar nominations.

In the period drama – which is adapted from Denis Johnson’s acclaimed 2011 novella – Macy starred as Arn Peeples, an early 20th century Pacific Northwest railroad laborer.

Train Dreams was nominated for Best Picture, Best Adapted Screenplay, Best Cinematography and Best Original Song, but it lost in each category.

Macy and Huffman’s family had previously kept a low profile after her involvement in the 2019 college admissions scandal.

After pleading guilty, she served 11 days in jail, which Macy recently said ‘brought us closer,’ per The Mirror. 

In 2024, their daughter Georgia graduated from New York’s Vassar College, after her father revealed to Parade in 2019 that she is ‘interested in politics.’ 

Macy, one of the most acclaimed actors of his generation, was previously nominated for an Oscar for Best Supporting Actor after starring in the modern crime classic Fargo (1996).

He has also won two Emmy Awards and four Actor Awards, formerly known as the Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Awards, across his decades-spanning career.

In Brian, a coming-of-age teen comedy directed by Will Ropp, Ben Wang stars as a smart but struggling teenager named Brian who navigates high school, his own mental health struggles and a school political campaign to become class president. 

Earlier this week, Macy opened up about the TV and film projects he refuses to do and how that has affected the roles he gets these days. 

He said that he strongly opposes seeing violence in modern cinema — a stance he has publicly upheld over the years despite occasional instances of on-screen bloodshed appearing in his filmography.

At the same time, Macy also revealed he would love to play a villain in a superhero movie. 

‘You know what? I shot off my mouth a lot and I have for years about the violence in films and TV, which I think is horse s***,’ he told The Mirror in an article published on Saturday. 

‘It’s not real violence. It’s made up. It’s Hollywood,’ Macy said. ‘I think it’s bad for us. It’s bad for our society. Violence is real. 

‘But to tell the truth I think I hurt myself when it comes to the super [hero world],’ he continued.

‘But I’m dying to do it and I’d like to play the bad guy. When you get a plot, which is pretty high concept, you need those little grounding things. And I flatter myself, I’m pretty good at keeping things grounded.’
