A Minneapolis yoga studio descended into turmoil when emotional customers began chastising the staff for not opposing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
This incident unfolded on Sunday at CorePower Yoga in the Twin Cities, an area recently thrust into the spotlight due to the Trump administration’s intensified immigration policies.
The conflict arose when the studio decided to take down a sign that an instructor had put up earlier that day, bearing the message ‘ICE Out.’ The instructor was leading a class attended by numerous yoga enthusiasts.
Across Minneapolis, many establishments have been displaying signs to express their opposition to ICE, particularly since the tragic January shooting of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti.
Heather Anderson, a regular at the studio, attended the Sunday session and recounted that the instructor explained her departure from the studio, citing a misalignment of values with the establishment after she posted the anti-ICE sign.
Following the class, some participants gathered in the lobby to question two female employees at the front desk. Anderson began documenting the escalating confrontation and soon found herself spearheading the charged queries.
‘Give us answers, let’s go. Say it out loud for the camera for all my viewers,’ Anderson said to the visibly rattled blonde woman behind the desk. ‘Let’s hear it. Why are you being silent?’
‘Let’s hear it, Delaney,’ Anderson said, interrupting the woman as she tried to respond. ‘Loud and proud, baby. You want to say it, let’s f***ing say it. Why?’

‘Let’s go, it’s an “um” and a “well”. You should have well-rehearsed corporate action and words ready to go,’ Anderson continued. ‘Let’s hear a god damn answer.’
A few supportive snaps could be heard amid the crowd, before a man said: ‘The silence is deafening.’
Delaney said she was ‘taking a pause’, which caused Anderson to erupt in anger once again.
‘No, don’t take a pause! Come on, you came here to silence teachers. I’ve never seen your f***ing face in my ten years of practicing at this studio. Don’t take a pause. Be loud with CorePower corporate’s answers. Let’s f***ing go! What do you gotta say? Louder, Delaney! For us in the back!’ she yelled. ‘Why are you having one of our best teachers quit?’
Later, Anderson asked if the teacher’s sign would be going back up. ‘We don’t want to chat, we want action.’
‘Is that the ask?’ the brunette staffer asked the crowd. The crowd responded ‘yes’ in unison.
A CorePower spokesperson told the Daily Mail that the anti-ICE sign the instructor put up was removed because it hadn’t been reviewed by management or corporate leaders.
It was ‘quickly’ replaced with a sign that said federal law enforcement could only enter the studio with a valid judicial warrant, the spokesperson said.
All the customers unanimously agreed that an anti-ICE sign should be put back up in the front window of the studio
Heather Anderson, the woman who recorded the showdown and directed much of the harsh questioning, was later banned from all of CorePower’s studios
CorePower said it is broadly against ICE’s actions in Minneapolis, adding that studios have been closed when there are heightened tensions and that employees have been advised not to engage with federal agents for their own safety.
‘We do not condone the violent ICE raids, and we have distributed signage across our studios. We know that the events unfolding weigh heavily on those who enter our spaces, and we respect peaceful activism and individuals’ rights to expression,’ the company said in a statement.
After the incident on Sunday, CorePower permanently terminated Anderson’s membership at all of its more than 200 studios around the country.
She was identified as the ‘lead instigator’ and was the only person to be completely banned from CorePower. Anderson did not return a request for comment.
CorePower then temporarily suspended the memberships of the entire class ‘out of an abundance of caution’ while they investigated who was involved.
CorePower then got in touch with the customers and reinstated the memberships of about 30 people who demonstrated that they did not berate the staffers, who were licensed yoga instructors that were filling in at the studio that day.
Not all the people present that day have been reached by CorePower, but as of now, the rest of the class will face a 90-day suspension.
