Young woman whose mum didn’t recognise her after eating fast food everyday reveals how she lost 30kg

A young woman who weighed 95kg at the start of 2020 has shocked her family and friends after losing 30kg in 12 months.

Cora Henderson, from Sydney, started her weight loss journey at the start of 2020 after her mum didn’t recognise her when picking her up at the airport.

The 21-year-old call centre employee used to gorge on takeaway McDonald’s food everyday while working as a flight attendant and never exercised.

‘My mum didn’t recognise me because I had gained so much weight since the last time she saw me six months prior, so she sat me down and asked what was going on,’ Cora told FEMAIL.

‘It was awful to hear but if she didn’t say anything I probably would’ve been ten kilos heavier. The next day I changed my lifestyle completely.’

After changing her diet and joining a gym, Cora dropped down to 65kg and now fits into size eight women’s clothing.

Cora previously worked as a flight attendant and would constantly binge eat unhealthy food while working and never ate fruit or vegetables.

‘Before getting on the flight I would order a McDonald’s meal from the airport food court because it was easy,’ she said.

‘It was an unhealthy habit but I didn’t realise how big I had become.’

Whenever she would go grocery shopping, she would only buy ‘unhealthy food and snacks’.

‘I would watch tv and eat out of boredom because I could,’ she said.

'For the first month I gave myself a junk food ban so I didn't eat out anywhere, which was great for me and was such a big change,' she said

‘It horrible and hard at the start because I was so unfit – I stepped on a treadmill for the first time and couldn’t run for more than 20 seconds,’ she said.

She also attended high intensity interval training (HIIT) sessions and dance classes.

‘I later had help from a personal trainer for one session who taught me how to use the equipment in the weights area,’ she said.

The ‘most challenging aspect’ of shedding the 30kg was ensuring she was being consistent and going to the gym every single day.

‘I was so hard on myself and if I took a day off, I felt so guilty,’ she said.

‘When I started seeing results, it only made me want to work harder.’

To seek motivation when she didn’t want to exercise, she changed the wallpaper on her phone to an image of her ‘dream’ body for inspiration.

The final 10kg was the ‘most frustrating’ aspect of her weight loss journey as Cora’s results plateaued once she dropped down to 75kg.

While it was challenging at times, her persistence and training paid off and she managed to lose the additional 10kg.

‘It’s important to remember no one’s going to do this for you, you are the only one who can do it for yourself,’ Cora said and offered her weight loss advice to others.

‘You’re not going to get the body you want sitting down, just focus on your diet and exercise routine and stay consistent.’

She also recommended reading inspiring quotes daily, believe in yourself and switch your plate to a smaller size to make sure you’re not overeating.

Cora’s ‘Day on a Plate’ today:

Breakfast – banana before the gym then toast, egg whites and a slice of bacon

Snack – fruit

Lunch – chicken or steak with vegetables

Snack – fruit

Dinner – a type of protein with vegetables

No snacks after 8pm
