Trump says Iran ‘welcome’ to compete in World Cup, FIFA chief Gianni Infantino claims
Trump Honored with FIFA Peace Prize by Infantino Last December
Former President Donald Trump has expressed that Iran is “welcome” to join the World Cup festivities in North America, as confirmed by FIFA President Gianni Infantino.
The ongoing conflict has cast uncertainty over Iran’s participation in this summer’s World Cup, which will be jointly held by Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
In an Instagram post, Infantino shared insights from a meeting focused on the tournament’s preparations. “We also discussed the current situation in Iran,” the FIFA leader noted.
He further mentioned, “During our talks, President Trump affirmed that the Iranian team is certainly welcome to compete in the United States.”
This statement marks the first instance where Infantino, who presented Trump with the first-ever FIFA Peace Prize in December, has publicly addressed the ongoing Middle Eastern conflict.
