Biography of Richard Mofe-Damijo, popular veteran Nollywood actor who goes by the moniker, RMD.

The ‘ladies man’, as labelled by many, was born on 6 July 1961. He has enjoyed impeccable spells in Nollywood. A feat, coupled with other personal records of excellence once earned him the echelon of a Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State.

The illustrious actor was adjudged Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Award in 2005.

Early Life and Education

Having been born in Aladja community of Udu Kingdom, near Warri in Delta State of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Richard Mofe-Damijo began his schooling at Anglican Grammar School and further went on to attend Midwest College, Warri. He was a member of the Drama Club. Upon completion of his secondary education, Richard Mofe-Damijo (RMD) went on to enroll in the University of Benin where he read Theatre Arts. In 2004, Mofe-Damijo graduated from the University of Lagos with a Master’s Degree in Law.

Career

Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD) first worked as a famous Nigerian journalist when he completed his tertiary education. He later left the media and to pursue his passion in acting as he joined Nigerian Nollywood. He starred in his first television soap opera “Ripples”.
However, the first film that earned him writer/producer credit was “Out of Bounds”. Mofe-Damijo was adjudged Best Actor in a Leading Role at the Africa Movie Academy Award in 2005.
Overall, Richard Mofe Damijo (RMD) has starred in more than 200 Nollywood movies and they include Out of Bounds, Hostages, Scores to Settle, Diamond Ring, The Messenger, and many more.
RMD’s success in the movie industry coupled with other personal records of excellence earned him the echelon of a Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Delta State, Nigeria.

MARRIAGE

Richard Mofe-Damijo was married to May Ellen-Ezekiel (MEE), a Nigerian journalist/publisher. Following her demise in 1996, the dexterous actor tied the knot with TV anchor, Jumobi Adegbesan, who he had been dating for about three years. Jumobi who was an African International Television presenter parted ways with her media employers to explore the corporate world. Richard Mofe-Damijo 2children with Jumobi and 2 from his previous marriage.

Politics and Family

In 2008, RMD was assigned as the Special Advisor of Culture and Tourism to the then Governor, Emmanuel Uduaghan. He later became the commissioner for the Culture and Tourism of Delta State, Nigeria in 2009, a portfolio that spanned till 2015.
