Hasan Piker (born July 25, 1991), also known as HasanAbi (abi meaning big brother in Turkish), is an American Twitch streamer and a left-wing political commentator. He has previously worked as a broadcast journalist and producer at The Young Turks and as a columnist at HuffPost.

He is currently one of the most-viewed and most-subscribed-to streamers on Twitch, where he covers news, plays a variety of video games, and discusses politics from a socialist perspective.

However, follow-up tweets indicate that he may try to shirk the ban by appearing on other channels. Twitch does have rules against banned streamers appearing on other streams, though.

Twitch has been unable to shake the negative reputation it’s garnered due to its bans. Meanwhile, YouTube has been recruiting new talent, wooing streamers to its platform with lucrative exclusivity contracts.

YouTube isn’t perfect either, though. Streamer Ludwig was banned from YouTube days after starting his exclusive streams on the platform, an embarrassing situation for the platform, which appears to have banned him erroneously.

It’s unclear when Twitch will lift Piker’s ban, though it’s evidence of the complicated climate that content creators are subject to. The possibility of bans and copyright claims weigh heavily on streamers, and there are no real signs of the situation improving in the near future.
