Former wrestling star Jimmy Rave has died weeks after having both his legs amputated amid struggles with drug addiction, his agent has said.

Daughter Kailah and wrestling agent Bill Behrens confirmed on Tuesday that the 39-year-old, whose real name was James Michael Guffey, had passed away.

The cause of his death has not been revealed, but a statement shared to Mr Behrens’ Twitter account read: “James had struggled with drug addiction for many years.

“His struggles resulted in the amputation of his arm, and, later, both his legs.

“James is survived by his ex-wife Felicia, daughter Kailah, son James II and parents Jim & Toni Guffey.”Advertisement

In October, Rave announced he had undergone surgery to remove both his legs due to a Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) infection.

That came nearly a year after his arm was amputated, forcing his retirement from the ring.

The former athlete shared a startling photo of himself laying in a hospital bed with both legs and his left arm amputated after being diagnosed with MRSA, an antibiotic-resistant bacterial infection.

He made his professional debut as a 16-year old, appearing as the masked Mr. XTC.

Rave debuted in Ring of Honor in 2003. He later became a member of The Embassy, a stable led by Prince Nana, and was nicknamed “The Crown Jewel of the Embassy”.

In 2006, Rave had sporadically been tagging with Alex Shelley in search of the ROH Tag Team Titles, but after Shelley left the company in mid-year, Rave returned to singles action briefly.

He found himself on the losing side of several encounters with Davey Richards. Soon Nana brought in a new tag partner, Sal Rinauro, and the two began working through the tag ranks.

On January 14, 2006, in Philadelphia, Rave and Alex Shelley of The Embassy attacked ROH World Champion Bryan Danielson after a successful title defense.
