Mark Stephen Murphy Murderer – Wiki

After he was last seen in October 1996, Mark Stephen Murphy, 59, was charged with Mr. Thurlow’s cold case murder.

The man from Burpengary East was interviewed as part of the original investigation more than two decades ago.

Police stated at the time that they believed Mr. Murphy was the main person of interest in the investigation, but that they were also investigating other possibilities.

Mr. Murphy was apprehended after a re-examination of the case began in March, prompting new witnesses to come forward in response to a request for information.

Murphy will be sentenced at a later date, which has yet to be determined, in Brisbane Supreme Court.

Has Gregory James Thurlow Killer Been Arrested?

Gregory James Thurlow, an unemployed construction worker, was killed in North Brisbane by Mark Stephen Murphy in October 1996.

Prosecutor Rhys Dunmall presented 48 statements and an exhibit list to Brisbane magistrate Peter Saggers during the brief committal proceedings on Tuesday.

In response, Thomas Schafer, Murphy’s legal aid counsel, agreed that there was enough evidence to send the case to the Supreme Court.

When Mr. Saggers asked if he wanted to respond to the accusation, Murphy said yes.

The admission was made in accordance with Murphy’s instructions to Mr. Schafer, according to the court.

According to police, Mr. Thurlow was last seen leaving a Bray Park house late on October 1 in a green 1980 VC Holden Commodore vehicle.
