Early Life and Career Beginnings

Olesya grew up in Moscow though at the age of eight, she decided to immigrate to the United States to join her father who had moved to the country two years prior. She lived in Texas for a while before moving to Utah. Over the next few years, she would start training in ballet and was encouraged by her mother to also try her hand at a modelling career.

She entered a modelling contest at the age of 12 and won, gaining representation from four different agencies. Her career didn’t take-off immediately, however, and in the meantime she took on numerous jobs while waiting for her big breakthrough, working for stores such as Nordstrom and Victoria’s Secret. She attended West Jordan High School which is located near Salt Lake City, Utah. It has over 1,700 students and is known for its music program, having the largest choir program in the state. During her time there, she was cast in the first “High School Musical” film.

“High School Musical” was released in 2006, and is a modern take on “Romeo & Juliet”. The story features two high school juniors from rival cliques, who together try out for a lead part in their high school musical. This in turn leads to a division among school students, with several people wanting to stop them from fulfilling their roles in the musical. The film proved highly successful, and became the most commercially successful Disney Channel Original Movie ever produced. The success of the original film would create a series of sequels.

Rulin on the other hand continued her studies, moving to Paris to study for a degree in economics. During that time, she was invited to the sequel “High School Musical 2” which managed to surpass its predecessor, breaking numerous records, including for the most commercially successful set by the original. She also reprised her role in the third film, which was no released theatrically, but grossed over $252 million worldwide, making it the highest grossing film of the franchise.

Recent Projects

After Olesya’s run with the “High School Musical” franchise, she continued her career by appearing in several other Disney Channel Original movies such as “Halloweentown High”, and “Hounded”. She then co-starred in the film entitled “Major Movie Star”, also known as “Private Valentine: Blonde & Dangerous”, alongside Jessica Simpson, which follows the story of an actress who enlists into the US Army. In 2009, Olesya was then cast in the drama film “Flying By” alongside Billy Ray Cyrus and Heather Locklear; the film is known to be the final film of actress Patricia Neal.

In 2010, she starred in another film called “Expecting Mary”, which also starred Elliot Gould and Linda Gray, and was premiered at the Palm Springs International Film Festival. Three years later, she worked on “Family Weekend” alongside Kristin Chenoweth, and in 2014 was then cast in the PlayStation Network series entitled “Powers”, playing the character Calista Sector. It is an adaptation of the comic book series of the same name published by the Marvel Comics imprint, Icon Comics; it was cancelled after its first season. A few of her latest appearances are in guest roles in shows such as “The Night Shift”, and “SEAL Team”.

Personal Life and Social Media

For her personal life, not much is known in terms of any of Rulin’s romantic relationships. She has not talked about this aspect of her life, nor has been open about it. Many believe that she is single as there is nothing pointing to her being in a relationship. During her free time, she pursues other passions such as travelling, fashion and art. She also recently started creative writing, and released her first novel. According to her, some of her friends call her the conservation girl due to her enjoyment of nature, and advocating environmental projects.

Similar to numerous actresses, she is highly active online through accounts on social media. She has an account on Instagram on which she has almost 200,000 followers, and uses the platform to give updates on her current endeavors, posting modelling work and some other projects she’s been doing.
