One of the three men accused of murder in the death of Ahmadu Arbery began sobbing on the witness stand on Wednesday as he described the final minutes of his deadly confrontation with Arbery.
Travis McMichael, who was seen on camera shooting and murdering Arbery in the Satilla Shores district of Brunswick on Feb. 23, 2020, was the first witness for the defense.
Following that, he was convicted of malice murder, four counts of felony murder, two charges of aggravated assault, false imprisonment, and a criminal attempt to conduct a felony after that.

Travis McMichael Profession: Is Coast Guard Mechanic
When enquired about Travis McMichael’s profession, he responded that his primary responsibility was as a mechanic but he was also in charge of law enforcement and search-and-rescue missions.
McMichael claimed that he received boarding officer training at the Maritime Law Enforcement Academy and that his position with the Coast Guard gave him arrest authority.
Further, the lawyer representing McMichael then questioned him on his training in the use of force, especially the ‘use of force continuum,’ which runs from the first level, such as an officer exhibiting their presence, to the sixth degree, ‘deadly force.’
While McMichael indicated he routinely employed tactics on the lower levels of the use of force continuum while in the military, he never used a baton or used lethal force.

Travis McMichael Charges
Travis McMichael shot and murdered Arbery with a 12-gauge shotgun after chasing him in his Ford F-150 pickups. He formerly served in the Coast Guard.
Following the incident, Gregory, Travis McMichael, and William Bryan were charged with nine criminal offenses in Georgia state court, including felony murder, aggravated assault, and false imprisonment.
According to the indictment filed in June 2020, the individuals are accused of chasing and abusing Arbery with their pickup trucks before murdering him with a 12-gauge shotgun.
