During a recent episode of her podcast IMO With Michelle Obama and Craig Robinson, Michelle and Barack Obama officially dismissed the rumors of their divorce. However, they had an unexpected supporter: Former U.S. President George W. Bush.
Jenna Bush Hager revealed as much when she shared a clip from Michelle’s podcast on Today With Jenna & Friends.
“I called my dad and asked, ‘Have you heard this rumor?’ He replied, ‘I don’t believe it. It’s false!'” Michelle recounted to her guest host, Octavia Spencer. “And I said, ‘Alright, love you!'”
Bush Hager continued, “He was kind of mad that I called to even ask. He was like, ‘That isnât true. I know them and it isnât true.’”
According to Jenna Bush Hager, her family has always maintained a good relationship with the Obamas since Barack took over the presidency from her father in 2009. She even had an eye-opening moment on Today when she realized why her father had such a good rapport with Michelle.
âI just realized why my dad and Mrs. Obama are friends, they have the same love language!â she said during a May broadcast of Today, noting they have a similar sense of humor.
After sharing her father’s reaction to the divorce rumors, Bush Hager also looked back on some of the rumors that had been spread about her when her father was still in the White House.
She explained to Spencer that she was photographed doing the Texas Longhorns signal with her hands while attending a concert. “And they said I was in a satanic cult,” she remembered. “There was a whole article about it. Isnât that hilarious?”
As for Spencer, the Oscar-winning actress rolled her eyes as she shared what kinds of rumors she’s had to clarify about herself. “Well, I just had to dispel the rumors that I was with Brad Pitt and George Clooney,” she joked.
“At the same time?” Bush Hager responded. “They know you would be dedicated to one of them, youâre not getting between that friendship.”
