Peter Drury has gained plaudits for his commentary of Alejandro Garnacho’s sensational strike against Everton.

Garnacho opened the scoring after just three minutes of Manchester United’s 3-0 win over Everton on Sunday afternoon, firing in an overhead kick that left viewers speechless.

Drury, however, was anything but, letting out his raw emotion in the commentary box at Goodison Park, though Sky Sports viewers were derived of the words of the chief football commentator on the channel.

While there were few complaints about the coverage of the goal – which saw Neville scream in excitement as the ball hit the back of the net – many wondered how Drury would have commentated over it, and they can now find out.

‘Dalot joining in from full back, Dalot for Garnacho, oh wow! Oh wow! That is one of the great goals, in front of a stunned Gwladys Street,’ Drury belted out as the Argentine rifled the ball into the net.

‘Special beyond special. How has he plucked that one out?’

Co-commentator Lee Dixon then took over, and wasn’t short of praise for the goal either.

‘Well the move was good enough but the finish, every one of these Everton fans, it’s not going to happen, but they should be applauding that because they won’t see a goal like that at Goodison Park for a very long time,’ he said.

‘Watch Dalot’s run, takes Mykolenko inside, that gives Rashford a bit of space, but watch this, far post.

‘Forget about everything else, Dalot sits it up, and that is world class, absolutely world class.

‘VAR in my ear is checking something. Don’t you dare disallow this, there is nothing to disallow. It is an absolutely world class goal.’

Drury took over from Martin Tyler at the start of the season after the former stepped down from his role after 30 years of commentary with the company.

He has received mixed reviews for his work so far, with some viewers enjoying the 56-year-old’s enthusiastic coverage whilst some argue he goes too over-the-top.

He regularly commentates on one game per match day for Sky, usually the highlight game of the weekend on a Sunday, but, with City’s game against Liverpool being moved to a Saturday, Drury took the reigns.

Drury also commentates for other channels when not working for Sky, which is not unusual for commentators to do.
