Tulsi Gabbard recently offered a rare glimpse into her often private relationship with her husband, cinematographer Abraham Williams, through a heartfelt social media post. Although Gabbard works in Washington, D.C., at the center of the nation’s intelligence community, the couple seems to prefer their time together at their home in Texas. Last week, Gabbard, a top U.S. Intelligence official, shared a romantic tribute to Williams on her usually career-centric social media, featuring ten images of their adventures around the globe.
Forever valentine
Among the pictures, at least four were taken in Washington, D.C. One photo captures the couple outside the White House, near Donald Trump’s Presidential Walk of Fame, while another shows them horseback riding on a sandy beach. In a striking shot, Williams holds an American flag atop a mountain summit, both clad in weighted flak jackets. “I’m a day late … but yesterday was for us,” Gabbard expressed in a February 15 post. “You are my forever valentine,” she continued, expressing her deep love and gratitude. The couple, who relocated from Hawaii to a suburb of Austin, Texas, in 2024, enjoy their time together away from Gabbard’s office in McLean, Virginia, often returning home to Texas on weekends and holidays.
CrossFit with a Carbine
The duo frequently appears on the Instagram page of a gym in the Austin area, known for hosting the Tactical Games—a high-intensity competition that merges CrossFit-style workouts with rifle and pistol marksmanship. As fitness enthusiasts who enjoy merging physical challenges with shooting skills, it’s not surprising that Gabbard, a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserves, participates in these events. She first joined the Army in 2003, serving for 17 years in the Hawaii Army National Guard before transitioning to the Army Reserve in 2020.
Executive privilege battle
While serving as the director of national intelligence she maintains her military status. And while Gabbard runs the US intelligence community in DC, her husband is often on location shooting films. He is not regularly seen roaming around the capital region like some other spouses and partners, and it appears he still spends some time in his and Gabbard’s shared home state. Williams, who is part-Māori, part-Samoan and originally from Auckland, New Zealand, posted last month to his social media behind the scenes footage of him working the steadicam for a fight scene in the AppleTV show Chief of War.
Roughly 80 percent of the season was filmed in New Zealand with the rest – mainly fight scenes – being shot on Hawaii’s Big Island in the Kalapana lava fields. It’s unclear if Williams is a Democrat or Republican, but he met and married Gabbard when she was still a Democratic politician. The two married in 2015 and Gabbard announced in October 2022 she was leaving the Democratic Party. Williams is registered to vote in Texas now, but his party affiliation is not listed. He does have an Instagram page dedicated to his affinity for firearms marksmanship and precision sport shooting. Gabbard’s first marriage was to little-known businessman Eduardo Tamayo from 2002 to 2006.
