The FBI has successfully prevented a planned terror attack slated for this Halloween weekend, according to an announcement made on Friday.

FBI Director Kash Patel shared on social media platform X that several individuals have been apprehended in Michigan in connection with the foiled plot.

“This morning, the FBI successfully thwarted a potential terrorist attack,” Patel stated. “We have detained multiple suspects in Michigan who were allegedly planning a violent incident over the Halloween weekend.”

As millions of Americans gear up for Halloween festivities, including trick-or-treating and parties, the news of the foiled plot comes as a relief to many.

While the specific number of arrests and the exact nature of the planned attack remain undisclosed, Patel assured that the FBI will soon provide more comprehensive details on the thwarted scheme.

The Detroit field office of the FBI confirmed to the Daily Mail that agents were actively involved in operations in Dearborn and Inkster, Michigan, on Friday morning.

‘There is no current threat to public safety,’ the field office’s public affairs officer Jordan Hall insisted.

Soon after receiving confirmation, members of the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force were pictured on Friday armed with rifles outside a home in the Detroit suburb of Dearborn.

A federal law enforcement source told Fox News that the Friday arrests were of those ‘tied to international terrorism.’

Patel expanded on the situation in a statement noting ‘a potential act of terror was stopped before it could unfold.’

‘The vigilance of this FBI prevented what could have been a tragic attack — and thanks to their dedication, Michigan will have a safe and happy Halloween,’ he added.

Separately, in May, the FBI said it arrested a man who had spent months planning an attack against a US Army site in suburban Detroit on behalf of the Islamic State group.

The man, Ammar Said, didn’t know that his supposed allies in the alleged plot were undercover FBI employees.

Said remains in custody, charged with attempting to provide support to a terrorist organization.

The criminal complaint was replaced in September with a criminal ‘information’ document, signaling that a guilty plea is likely.

While Michigan voted red in the 2024 presidential election, the state is run by a Democratic governor and Senate – but has a Republican House.

Its largest city, Detroit, has some of the highest violent crime rates in the country, and has faced criticism from Donald Trump and other Republicans for mismanagement by Governor Gretchen Whitmer, who is considered a rising star in the Democratic Party.

Just hours before the arrests and right after arriving back on Thursday from a weeklong trip through Asia, President Donald Trump helped kick-off Halloween weekend by welcoming kids to the White House for the annual trick-or-treating event.

The president and first lady Melania Trump stood outside their residence on the South Lawn and handed out candy to children who came by dressed in their costumes.
