Marjorie Taylor Greene could now face committee removal from her own party after lashing out twice at a Homeland Security Committee hearing and calling DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas a liar.
The firebrand Republican congresswoman from Georgia called out Democratic Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-California) during the hearing to again accuse him of having a sexual relationship with and being compromised by a Chinese spy – a matter unrelated to the hearing Wednesday.
After that outbreak and the one calling out Mayorkas’ character, Republican Chairman Mark Green of Tennessee barred Taylor Greene – often referred to by her initials MTG – from speaking further during the hearing.
MTG was removed from her committee assignments in 201 by the Democrat-controlled chamber for pushing conspiracy theories, some associated with QAnon.

But the latest is a stunning display of how even members of MTG’s own party are getting fed up with her antics and bombastic rhetoric.
Green, a physician and retired U.S. Army major, is furious with the congresswoman’s behavior at the hearing Wednesday, a source close to him told CNN.
He plans to privately reprimand MTG and will encourage House Speaker Kevin McCarthy to remove her from the committee should another similar incident occur during a public hearing, according to the same source.
The Georgia representative told CNN she was ‘surprised and angered’ when Chairman Mark Green effectively silenced her at a hearing after she called Mayorkas ‘a liar.’ She already spoke to McCarthy
‘He agreed with me,’ Greene said of McCarthy.
Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-N.Y.) and the third highest-ranking House Republican told Dailymail.com ‘no’ on whether MTG should be removed from the Homeland Security Committee.
This latest incident wouldn’t be the first time that the Georgia lawmaker faced committee removal for controversial comments.

The House moved in February 2021 by a 230-199 vote to take MTG off both the Education and Labor Committee as well as the Budget Committee. Eleven Republicans voted with Democrats to pass the measure.
Even suggestions that MTG could be removed from her new panel assignment by her own party displays the rising tensions within the House GOP.
During her allocated time at Wednesday’s hearing, Taylor Greene began by attacking Swalwell after he displayed a photo of her calling for the FBI to be defunded. Her rebuttal was to bring up a years-old incident where Swalwell was accused of having a sexual relationship with Chinese spy Fang Fang.
While these accusations have led Republicans to call for the California Democrat to be removed from his committees, the matter was unrelated to the Wednesday hearing on the southern border crisis.
Democratic Rep. Dan Goldman of New York moved after MTG’s attack to have the ‘completely inappropriate’ words stricken from the record, but the GOP-led panel overruled the motion.
When resuming her time speaking, Greene accused Mayorkas of being a ‘liar’ who is complacent in allowing fentanyl overdose deaths to occur.
‘Congresswoman, let me assure you that we’re not letting it go on,’ Mayorkas said.
Greene shot back: ‘No, I reclaim my time. You’re a liar. You are letting this go on. And the numbers prove it.’

Homeland Committee Chairman Mark Green had to move to end MTG’s time after she lashed out at fellow panel member Eric Swalwell and then called witness DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas a ‘liar’

Swalwell was allegedly targeted as part of a Chinese effort to get close to U.S. politicians. Republicans claim he had a sexual relationship with the spy Christine Fang (right) – otherwise known as Fang Fang
This time, Democrat Ranking Member Bennie Thompson spoke up to ask for MTG’s words to be taken out of the record as she refused to withdraw her remarks when prompted for a second time.
The two separate clashes resulted in Green ruling that his Republican colleague could not speak for the remainder of the hearing – she left shortly after being silenced.
‘It’s pretty clear that the rules state you can’t impugn someone’s character,’ the chairman conceded. ‘Identifying or calling someone a liar is unacceptable in this committee and I make the ruling that we strike those words.’
