During a congressional deposition last Thursday, a heated exchange erupted between Hillary Clinton and Republican Congresswoman Nancy Mace over Clinton’s connections to Jeffrey Epstein and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick. The tension arose when Mace questioned Clinton about Lutnick’s attempts to involve Epstein in a fundraiser for Clinton’s 2016 presidential campaign. A video of the deposition, released on Monday, captures the former first lady and secretary of state expressing visible frustration as Mace interrupted her explanation.
Clinton’s Heated Exchange During Deposition
Clinton’s response was emphatic. “You asked the question, I’m going to answer your question. This was what I spent my time doing!” she exclaimed before delving into her association with Lutnick. She recounted her introduction to Lutnick in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks, when she was a Senator. “I know Howard Lutnick, because when I was Senator on 9/11, the firm he headed, Cantor Fitzgerald, suffered the greatest loss of life,” she explained. “As I recall, something like 650 of his employees were murdered by terrorists that day. Howard Lutnick missed being a victim because he was delayed dropping his child off to kindergarten.” The deposition continued with Clinton’s testimony on Thursday, followed by her husband Bill Clinton’s deposition the next day.
Mace Claims Emails Contradict Clinton’s Deposition
The exchange swiftly gained traction on social media, prompting Mace to comment later that day. She pointed out that “Hillary Clinton denied seeking funds from Jeffrey Epstein in her deposition – yet emails showed Howard Lutnick sought funds for Hillary from Jeffrey Epstein.” However, Mace did not provide evidence that Clinton personally sought funds from Epstein. “She lost her [expletive] when I asked about it,” Mace remarked. During the deposition, Clinton maintained she had never met Epstein and had only encountered his associate, Ghislaine Maxwell, a few times.
Lawmakers speaking ahead of the deposition last week were asked whether they planned to ask Clinton about an email in the Epstein files, which shows Lutnick – now Donald Trump’s Commerce Secretary – emailed the pedophile about Hillary’s 2016 presidential campaign. ‘It will be on my list,’ Republican Representative Nancy Mace told reporters at the time.
In November 2015, Epstein’s assistant forwarded him an invitation from Lutnick to a ‘very intimate fundraising event’ at his financial firm for then-presidential candidate Hillary. It is unclear whether Epstein attended the event. He made no donations to her campaign, according to filings from the Federal Elections Commission. Lutnick donated $2,700 to her campaign, the maximum allowed by law at that time.
