In a startling twist to an ongoing saga, journalist Ryan Lizza has unveiled yet another personal disclosure concerning his former fiancée, Olivia Nuzzi. This time, he shared an extensive and intimate memo, allegedly authored by Nuzzi, that was directed at Robert F. Kennedy Jr. during the intense 2024 presidential race.

Lizza accused Nuzzi of blurring professional boundaries, pointing to a memo from June 2024. In it, she reportedly urged then-presidential hopeful Kennedy to reconsider a debate strategy, suggesting that her actions crossed from journalism into political strategizing.

The memo, shared verbatim on Lizza’s Substack, features five paragraphs where Nuzzi advised RFK Jr. against a solo debate on X, warning it could appear as though he was fixating on being sidelined from the main debate featuring Republican Donald Trump and Democrat Joe Biden.

In the memo’s concluding paragraph, Lizza revealed a personal dimension to Nuzzi’s communication, as she expressed affection for Kennedy, who is now Secretary of Health and Human Services, by stating, “I love you,” accompanied by a lips and heart emoji.

Nuzzi’s strategic counsel to Kennedy involved presenting himself as a comeback hero, while characterizing his rivals, Trump and Biden, as less serious figures comparable to animated characters.

She advised, “The message should be that you are Rocky [Balboa], whereas the other candidates resemble Rocky and Bullwinkle.”

And she even advised him on what to wear: a blue suit and standard thin tie because ‘you are a summer.’

Nuzzi and Kennedy did not respond to the Daily Mail’s request for comment on the authenticity of the memo.

In terms of how to break the news of his counter-programming to the Trump-Biden debate, Nuzzi told Kennedy to give the exclusive to Fox and directing people on how to watch the event, according to the memo.

‘[Jesse] Watters would be my first choice. If he doesn’t go for it, I would forget primetime and offer it to Fox & Friends, The Five, or Outnumbered,’ she wrote. ‘If Fox turns it down, I would offer it to Piers in conjunction with the Daily Mail, with an agreement about how long the story must stay on their homepage.’

Nuzzi admits in her new memoir American Canto that she had an obsessive and sexual – though never physical – relationship with an unnamed politician.

But she has separately confirmed a relationship with RFK Jr. she says ‘never turned physical’ but included the exchange of intimate photos and sustained digital communication.

Since mid-November, Lizza has been publishing articles reliving the ‘ugly Olivia saga,’ as he calls it.

‘Silence was my preference. And Olivia seemed to agree. Last year, she asked to negotiate a non-disclosure agreement,’ he revealed in a previous post. ‘Earlier this year, she sent a message to me via a mutual friend: I will never talk about any of this again, and I hope you will do the same.’

But now, with the release of Nuzzi’s memoir detailing much of what transpired during their relationship, Lizza is telling his side of the story.

Lizza, a former Politico journalist, said he published the most recent memo because he was asked to ‘provide more primary source materials backing up the claims’ he made regarding the Nuzzi and RFK Jr. affair.

He previewed that he would publish more in the coming days.

The two former reporters got engaged in 2022. But Lizza broke things off after allegations of Nuzzi’s affair with Kennedy surfaced last year.

The latest reveals the extent to which Nuzzi, who was working for New York Magazine at the time, wanted to help RFK Jr. make strides with his 2024 presidential bid.

‘You are the best candidate, and the people who already know that came to that belief because they respect you and your ideas. Focus on your ideas,’ Nuzzi advised in her flowery memo.

But ultimately so deferred to his judgement, saying: ‘Just as you know what’s best for the country, you know best what you should do on your campaign, and whatever you decide, you’ll be great.’

Jumping way over the line between journalist and political advisor, Nuzzi told Kennedy of his plans for a counter-programming to the first presidential debate: ‘I worry that this format will visually suggest that you are not a legitimate option by projecting an image of you with your face pressed up against the glass.’

After CNN told RFK Jr. he would not be permitted on the stage with Trump and Biden in June 2024, the independent candidate decided to have his own solo ‘debate’ where he would field questions from former Fox Business host John Stossel.

‘It sucks and it’s unfair that CNN and the major parties colluded to exclude you, but you have to deal with that reality as it is,’ she went on.

‘I would lean into the fact that a majority of voters are sick of Trump and Biden and project an image of strength by accepting your exclusion, not dwelling on it,’ Nuzzi said, adding: ‘Your campaign and surrogates can dwell on your exclusion.’

‘You should exist on the plane above that conversation unless asked directly about it.’
