Republicans risk Trump's wrath as Marjorie Taylor Greene makes stunning admission on his MAGA goals

Republicans flocked to Donald Trump’s Miami-area golf course to chart a path forward on the president’s many goals, but they made little progress.

At issue is how House Republicans led by Speaker Mike Johnson decide to write a budget reconciliation plan, which the GOP will use a bill that they can attach many of Trump’s priorities like border security and tax cuts on to.

The formulation of a bill like this is more complicated than most legislation, lawmakers openly admit with a shrug. The reconciliation method is infrequently used and many in Congress have not gone through the process.

But Trump wants his policies passed into law as soon as possible and he has repeatedly prodded Johnson and Senate Majority Leader John Thune to get the legislative overhaul rolling.

Adding another layer of complexity is the open question of whether Republicans will be able to get the president’s huge array of promises, like no tax on tips, social security and overtime as well as adjusting birthright citizenship, into the same bill.

Trump has said he wants one ‘big, beautiful bill,’ but more recently has backed off, urging he doesn’t care about the minute details of how Congress enacts his agenda – rather he just wants it done quickly.

Dauntingly complicated, Republicans appear paralyzed by the reconciliation process, and Johnson confirmed Wednesday morning on the final day of the retreat that his party still is working on a ‘blueprint’ for this ‘historic’ legislative undertaking.

And Republican firebrand Marjorie Taylor Greene is ripping leadership for having ‘no plan’ after a lavish retreat ‘that didn’t accomplish anything.’

‘I would normally complain about spending money that didn’t accomplish anything, but we stayed at Trump Doral, which is a phenomenal resort, and the weather was sunny and in the 70’s,’ Greene posted to her 4.3 million X followers.

‘After two days at our House Republican winter retreat, we still do not have a plan on budget reconciliation and our Speaker and his team have not offered one,’ the Georgia Republican continued.

‘Not even if we are in a one bill or two bill framework.’

Trump, who made a stop by the retreat on Monday to galvanize lawmakers around his vision, made his openness to both plans well known.

‘They’re gonna work it out one way or the other. But the bottom line, the end result is gonna be the same,’ he said of the one or two bill strategy.

House Freedom Caucus member Chip Roy, a noted rival of Johnson’s, skipped the retreat altogether.

‘If you’re asking me to go spend money to go sit in a resort rather than doing our damn job in Washington … you’ve got no plan,’ he said.

Over 170 out of the 218 House GOP lawmakers descended on Trump National Doral, the president’s glistening 800-acre golf course resort on the edge of Miami.

The session did have a relaxed vibe as lawmakers ditched their coats and D.C.’s frigid temperatures for the sunny Florida coast where they instead wore athletic polos and dresses in airy marble-laden villas. The trip hardly looked like a work conference.

Johnson said the process is going according to plan

Johnson said the process is going according to plan

Though House Majority Leader Steve Scalise reassured reporters Wednesday there are 11 House committees working on the countless steps in this reconciliation process now already hard at work.

A delay in any of these could mean Trump is forced to wait on immigration reform and tax cuts getting codified into law – an area that could potentially frustrate the Republican eager on swift action.

Johnson has promised to get the reconciliation bill moved through the House late this spring, though staffers have stressed concern over the timeframe.

Republicans would first need to build out a budget to base the reconciliation maneuver on, and the process of building a federal budget is cumbersome, meaning the House Budget Committee Chairman Jodey Arrington needs to get down to business.

Still, Republicans hope to have a ‘blueprint’ of that budget this week.

Though some, like Greene, have cast a doubt on leadership’s ability.

‘I very much want House Republicans to be successful, all of us, with our razor thin majority,’ her Wednesday post continued.

‘Next time we meet, I hope to know a framework of our plan and I hope this doesn’t turn into another bill with thousands of pages dumped on us with less than 72 hours to read it all before we have to vote on the eve of another government shutdown.’

‘But why would I expect different?’ her lengthy note concluded.
