Stephen A. Smith, known for his outspoken commentary, has directed sharp criticism at President Trump, blaming him for mishandling the escalating conflict in Iran. The well-known ESPN host, who has previously hinted at a possible presidential run, did not hold back in his assessment of the current administration. As the situation in Iran intensifies into its third week, with rising gas prices and ongoing travel disruptions, Smith declared the situation an “absolute, unmitigated disaster.” He passionately questioned, “What is wrong with y’all? This is some straight nonsense! It’s got to stop,” emphasizing that this chaos is not representative of American values.
A Gift for the Left
Smith, addressing his audience on his SiriusXM radio show, claimed that the president’s actions are jeopardizing the future of the Republican Party. In his view, the Democrats are poised to benefit from this turmoil. “Do you know why it’s easy to get at the President of the United States right now, to point the finger of blame at him? Because he is messing up, that’s why,” Smith asserted, warning that the GOP is in serious trouble if they don’t address the issues soon. He urged, “Somebody better wake them up real quick.”
Beyond Partisanship
Despite his harsh critique, Smith clarified that he speaks as a “registered independent” with no allegiance to either political side. “I can’t stand any of your nonsense,” he candidly remarked about politicians in general. However, he cautioned that the Republican Party risks self-destruction, a recovery from which could be long and difficult unless the Democrats fumble their unexpected advantage. “Christmas has arrived for the Democratic party in the month of March, 2026,” he quipped. Smith also targeted Vice President JD Vance, accusing him of dishonesty over claims that gas prices were higher during Joe Biden’s presidency.
During an extraordinary rant, he also slammed the Democrats, claimed Trump is reaping what he sowed after ‘bullying’ America’s allies. He even impersonated the president. ‘”Everything is great, everything is wonderful. How could you think otherwise? We’re winning the war… it’s not really a war but if it was, we’re winning,”‘ Smith continued. ‘This is the kind of nonsensical [expletive] coming out of the mouth.
‘And somehow, someway, you have Republicans out there playing a role of apologist, forgetting to do their job and thinking it’s not going to come back to cost them.’ Smith added: ‘He’s Teflon Don… he’s bent rules, he’s bent norms, he’s walked away clean. And the GOP made a mistake: they started thinking it’s their party instead of recognizing it’s his party. That the stuff he gets away with, they’ll never get away with.’ The ESPN host then cited figures that claim Trump has made $1.4billion in ‘personal profit since returning to office.’
‘You can’t make this up. It’s so bad… Donald Trump isn’t running for a third term, unless he wants to circumvent the constitution of the United States,’ Smith continued. ‘He’s going home with the billions of dollars he’s collected as President of the United States between him, his sons and other family members… none of y’all can get away with the stuff he’s gotten away with. None of y’all can garner [this] level of popularity.’ He suggested the likes of Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio would pay the price if they chose to run for president in the future. Unless they started to stand up to Trump. ‘Show you have some balls, a spine,’ Smith continued. Because if you don’t, you will fall. He ain’t falling, he’s just leaving… he’s still good. It’s the rest of us that’s in trouble. He has his billions, he has his relationships.’
