President Donald Trump wants an investigation into ‘sanctimonious’ Democratic Senator Richard Blumenthal for lying about his military service in Vietnam decades ago. Trump’s sudden interest in Blumenthal comes after the Connecticut lawmaker traded jabs with Attorney General Pam Bondi at a Senate hearing on Tuesday.

Bondi brought up the senator’s military service scandal after Blumenthal pressed her about the indictment against former FBI Director James Comey. ‘I’m not going to be lectured to you about integrity by someone who lied about being in the military just to be elected as senator,’ Bondi told Blumenthal.

Trump later joined in on the attacks against Blumenthal on Tuesday night by demanding a formal investigation into the senator’s military service. ‘Sanctimonious Richard ‘Da Nang Dick’ Blumenthal, perhaps the biggest ‘joke’ in the United States Senate, is at it again! ‘Dick’ lied until the midpoint of his political career, convincing everyone, in particular the Fake News Media, that he was a great ‘War Hero’ who lived on the precipice of death in the jungles of Vietnam,’ Trump wrote.

‘He would talk about his life in the military in almost every speech, in particular the death defying dangers he faced in his many years ‘fight for freedom’ while in Vietnam. He stated that ‘the battles were violent and long, but there was no going back’ – And then it happened, Blumenthal was found out to be a FRAUD.’

In 2010, a New York Times investigation determined that Blumenthal had lied about his military record by suggesting he served in the Vietnam war. The Times found that Blumenthal had five deferments from 1965 to 1970 but later joined the Marine Corps Reserve Reserves.

However, he never fought in active military combat in the Vietnam war as he had previously suggested throughout his political career. The issue was heavily litigated in Blumenthal’s 2010 Senate campaign, but he survived the firestorm and defeated Republican opponent Linda McMahon by 12 points.

Trump continued, ‘This guy shouldn’t even be in the U.S. Senate. It should be investigated, and Justice should be sought.’ The president then appeared to cite disgraced former Rep. George Santos by noting, ‘Right now there is a Congressman sitting in prison for lying about his past during a campaign. Well, those lies were nothing compared to those of Richard ‘Da Nang Dick’ Blumenthal’

‘He should be allowed to speak no longer!’ After the Times released their investigation into Blumenthal, he later apologized by claiming he had ‘misspoke’ and his comments were not ‘clear or precise.’

Blumenthal responded to Trump’s latest Truth Social attack during a live interview with CNN anchor Kaitlan Collins. ‘This allegation of 15 years ago has been really rejected by the voters of Connecticut three times, overwhelmingly reelecting me,’ he noted.

Blumenthal added, ‘But more to the point, I was honorably discharged as a sergeant from the United States Marine Corps. I served in the reserves, and I referred to my service ‘in Vietnam’ on a handful, just a couple of occasions, rather than ‘during Vietnam.’
