Trump ditches Jackie Kennedy blue in bold makeover of entire Air Force fleet

Ever since President Donald Trump assumed office, he has been eager to revamp Air Force One with a striking new design. He envisioned a color palette of red, white, blue, and gold, reminiscent of his personal aircraft, Trump Force One.

Recent images reveal that Trump’s ambition extended beyond merely updating Air Force One; other government aircraft have also begun to showcase this revamped appearance.

An aviation enthusiast, known on Instagram as tt_33_operator, captured one of the government’s C-32As in flight on February 16. This aircraft, often serving as Air Force Two or a smaller version of Air Force One, was spotted soaring above Majors Airport in Greenville, Texas.

Majors Airport is a significant facility dedicated to refurbishing government jets.

The observed aircraft featured a blue underbelly, accented with gold and red stripes, topped with a white finish.

The livery closely resembled the model of Air Force One Trump has prominently showcased since his initial term.

It’s unclear how wide-ranging the design changes will be, with the White House referring to the Air Force for comment and the Daily Mail’s comment to the Air Force going unreturned.

If the entire VIP fleet is repainted, which includes more than 50 aircraft, it will end the traditional use of ‘Jackie Kennedy Blue,’ which has been a signature of the design since the 1960s.

In 1962, First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy tapped Raymond Loewy, the preeminent industrial designer of the time, to come up with a new design for the planes used as Air Force One.

He sketched the designs with crayons on the Oval Office floor, proposing two shades of blue and white with typeface inspired by the Declaration of Independence.

Ever since then, a version of that design has been used on the government’s VIP fleet.

But Trump has been persistent about getting his desired color scheme.

He used his version of Air Force One as a cake topper on inauguration day.

And told the Daily Mail a month later that ‘no matter what’ he would get the redesign he wished for, despite President Joe Biden cancelling the livery change when he was in office on the two Boeing jets being constructed to be used as Air Force One.

It appeared that he would get his wish on the Qatari-donated Air Force One, which is expected to go into service in July and then be donated to his presidential library, but CBS reported Tuesday that it would extend to the two Boeing Air Force Ones, too.

It’s another example of Trump branding just about everything in his path.

A major example is the White House itself, with Trump ordering the demolition of the East Wing to make way for a White House ballroom that, if approved, stands to be bigger than the White House itself.

On Thursday, the Commission of Fine Arts, one of the two oversight groups overseeing the ballroom project, rushed through an approval vote over Zoom.

The Commission of Fine Arts is now made up of only Trump appointees, including his 26-year-old executive assistant.

Beyond the White House, Trump wants to construct a 250-foot arch, nicknamed the ‘Arc de Trump,’ as a gateway to Washington, D.C., ahead of the nation’s July 4th 250th birthday.

There are also still plans to create his National Garden of American Heroes.

He’s also been supportive of putting his face on a special $1 coin to be created as part of the America250 celebration. Detractors say it’s un-American to have a living president’s face on U.S. currency.

Trump has slapped his name on the Kennedy Center and the U.S. Institute of Peace, where he held a Board of Peace meeting earlier Thursday.

He also reportedly pressured Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer to have New York’s Penn Station and Washington Dulles International Airport renamed after him.

During a gaggle on Air Force One, Trump said the renaming of Penn Station was Schumer’s idea, something the Democratic leader immediately called out as a lie.

Last month, Trump held an event at Mar-a-Lago after supporters successfully got a four-mile stretch of Southern Boulevard, from Palm Beach International Airport to his private club, named after him.

There’s also movement to have Palm Beach International Airport carry the Trump name.

Florida state lawmakers approved a bill on Tuesday that would rename the airport, used by the president frequently on travel to Mar-a-Lago, sending it to the state senate.
