Donald Trump appears to be escalating his longstanding animosity towards former President Barack Obama, now extending his criticisms to include Michelle Obama in a series of social media posts. On Tuesday morning, Trump took to Truth Social to share several posts targeting the Obama family. One of these featured an image from the film ‘Blazing Saddles,’ depicting actors Gene Wilder and Cleavon Little smiling with the caption, “Racism in America was almost dead because we were united in ridiculing racists and their beliefs.”
The meme continued with a follow-up image of Barack and Michelle Obama, accompanied by the caption, “Then these two showed up and set America back 100 years.” Trump’s social media activity didn’t stop there; he further shared a meme accusing Barack Obama of fabricating the “fake Russian Collusion story,” and suggested that the former president “should GO TO PRISON.” The post also included the alarming statement, “NOTHING IS MORE DANGEROUS THAN AN INSANE MORTALLY WOUNDED ANIMAL!”
These comments from Trump surfaced after he announced a proposed alternative to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), a hallmark of Obama’s presidency. During an appearance on Fox News with Laura Ingraham the night before, Trump reiterated his intent to replace Obamacare, which he described as offering “horrible health insurance at a very high price.”
‘Instead of going to the insurance companies, I want the money to go into an account for people where the people buy their own health insurance,’ Trump added. ‘If we did that, that would be so exciting. Call it Trumpcare.’ ‘Call it whatever you want! Anything but Obamacare!,’ the president added.
Trump has been promising to find a health care replacement plan to Obamacare for nearly a decade since starting his political career, without having fulfilled it. The president’s newfound ambition comes after he accused the Democrats of shutting down the government over ACA subsidies. The White House and GOP congressional leadership have proposed ending ACA subsidies and replacing it by sending federal funds directly to consumers.
‘Obamcare is a disaster, just like he was as a president,’ Trump concluded during his interview with Ingraham. Democrats, meanwhile, resisted ending Obamacare tax credits that were set to expire at the end of the year by insisting the issue be addressed before reopening the government.
As Congress enters the longest government shutdown in US history, the Senate passed a funding bill on Monday evening that would end the standoff. The Daily Mail reached out to Obama’s office for comment.
