Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand claims that the Red Devils are in a crisis.

Ferdinand, 44, launched a passionate rant ahead of their Premier League clash with Fulham.

Erik ten Hag’s side come into the clash at Craven Cottage off the back of a defeat to Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup.

Speaking on TNT Sports ahead of United’s showdown with the Cottagers, the ex-England defender said:  ‘In times like this where it’s a crisis – I believe this is a crisis right now – it’s not about performance, it’s about getting three points on the board.

‘That’s what matters. You can’t play well and get beaten and expect people to get behind you. You need to get the results, and the performances further down the road.’

Ferdinand also claims that it is the first time in Ten Hag’s tenure that people are starting to question him.

‘This is the first time in his tenure, Erik ten Hag, that’s he’s being questioned. It’s the first week I think people are really questioning him,’ he continued.

‘I think the club and everything else has been questioning his tenure here, which has been difficult, but him personally, all eyeballs are on him. What are you going to do right now?

‘Are you going to change the tide? He’s got big questions to answer right now.’

The Red Devils currently sit eighth in the Premier League table – having won just five times from 10 games so far this season.

Ten Hag’s side were dealt a huge blow ahead of the game as Marcus Rashford was excluded from Manchester United’s squad to face Fulham due to injury, while Raphael Varane has been benched for Jonny Evans again.

Rashford did not train yesterday and underwent a fitness test ahead of the match but has not made the team.

With eight losses in 15 games, it has been their worst start to a season since 1962/63. While they only sit two places behind sixth-placed Newcastle, United are already eight points off the top four coming into the weekend.

Injuries have plagued United all season, particularly at full-back, and the ongoing takeover saga has not helped to create a settled environment.

Pressuring is mounting on the manager, but Ten Hag says he will not buckle under the pressure of managing Manchester United.

The Old Trafford boss is taking flak from all sides but insists he is the man to put things right.
