Kensington Palace release slick video of Kate at the rugby for her first appearance since Andrew arrest

Kensington Palace has unveiled a polished new video featuring the Princess of Wales enjoying a rugby match, marking her first public appearance following the arrest of Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor.

Despite England’s defeat at the hands of Ireland in the Six Nations, with a score of 42 to 21, the video showcases an upbeat atmosphere, complete with triumphant music and images of English roses.

This event marked Kate Middleton’s first appearance since the former Prince Andrew’s dramatic arrest on Thursday, amid allegations of misconduct in a public office.

The arrest followed Thames Valley Police’s announcement that they were ‘assessing’ claims of Andrew sharing confidential trade reports and investment information with Jeffrey Epstein during his tenure as the UK’s special trade envoy in Asia in 2010 and 2011.

However, the video of Kate offers a different narrative, capturing her cheerful demeanor as she waves to the crowd upon arriving at Twickenham Stadium in her Range Rover. As a patron of the Rugby Football Union (RFU), the princess appeared in high spirits.

Sporting an England Rugby scarf adorned with the iconic red rose, Kate looked elegant in her full-length navy jacket, embodying both style and support for the team.

The rose of the English rugby team is indeed a royal symbol, originating from the Tudor rose, signifying unification after the bloody Wars of the Roses in the 15th Century.

After shaking hands with those inside and general views of the hubbub at the hallowed sports venue, Kate takes her seat next to an unlikely neighbour – England prop Fin Baxter.

Baxter was ruled out of the tournament after surgery on a foot injury. Instead of the white England jersey, the wide set prop donned a smart suit and tie for the game.

Kate and Baxter are seen having an engaging conversation in the stands in the video, with the princess being rather animated, gesticulating towards the big England prop.

On the other side of the Princess, president of the RFU Deborah Griffin takes her seat and these two were also seen having a brief conversation in the stands.

Smiles return as they all stand and clap the team into the stadium, and a huge English rose flag is waved down below.

Tense English faces are seen in the crowd and on the bench, followed by a triumphant set of Irish players cheering for their decisive victory.

Off-screen, the princess went down to the changing rooms to meet the team and was pictured with the grinning but grass-stained outside centre Ollie Lawrence, fullback Freddie Steward and winger Henry Arundell. She also met second row lock Maro Itoje and his father.

The princess then leaves the stadium and is escorted back to her car where she waves over the crowds again, seemingly unperturbed by the defeat.

Prince William was notably not with his wife at the game, who is a patron of the Welsh Rugby Union, but Princess Anne was spotted in the crowd at the Wales-Scotland game a few hours later.

The confident and cheery atmosphere of the video stands in stark contrast to the scenes that her uncle-in-law has been subject to this week.

Andrew was arrested by Thames Valley Police on Thursday morning this week from the royal Sandringham estate in Norfolk.

He was moved there at the beginning of the month after King Charles expedited his eviction from Royal Lodge in Windsor following more revelations from the Epstein files.

Police arrested him from Wood Farm, Prince Philip’s old residence, and searched the place and have also moved to search Royal Lodge.

Andrew was taken to Aylsham Police Investigation Centre by police, about an hour’s drive away. Here, he was questioned for nearly 11 hours before being released on investigation later that day.

He was photographed slumped in the back of a Range Rover, leaving the police station in a picture that immediately went viral.

Andrew has not yet been charged with misconduct in a public office. This is a very old law which dates back centuries and has a maximum sentence of life imprisonment.

The Crown Prosecution Service explained what the offence is. It said: ‘The offence concerns serious willful abuse or neglect of the power or responsibilities of the public office held.

‘There must be a direct link between the misconduct and an abuse of those powers or responsibilities.’

The police investigation continues.
