Meghan and Harry's Netflix deal is the 'best possible outcome' ahead of part two of With Love, Meghan, says ALISON BOSHOFF on PALACE CONFIDENTIAL

Experts on the latest episode of Palace Confidential have asserted that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s fresh Netflix agreement represents the most favorable scenario imaginable for the Sussexes.

Alison Boshoff, the Daily Mail’s leading showbusiness writer and Friday columnist, was the first to unveil that Netflix secured a non-exclusive first-look arrangement, a step down from the couple’s prior agreement.

Their upcoming projects will feature a second season of “With Love, Meghan,” scheduled to premiere on Tuesday, and a Christmas special in December.

In 2020, after stepping back from their roles as senior working royals, Harry and Meghan initially landed a substantial contract with Netflix, estimated at $100 million (£74 million).

The new arrangement is a first-look deal, meaning Netflix can say yes or no to new film or TV projects before anyone else.

Alison, during her introductory appearance on Palace Confidential, remarked, “The new arrangement is the optimal result for them – it stands as the best possible outcome.”

‘There’s no way that they could get the same deal again because those big money deals just aren’t being handed out.

‘What these deals give you is a development fee which can be generous, or can be mingey. It is generally in the low millions.

‘They save face, Netflix get the chance to say “pat on the back, we appreciate you, thank you for what you have done already”.

‘No one is going to want a project Netflix has passed on. All their content will still be on Netflix because no one is going to buy it.’

When asked by presenter Jo Elvin if there was any possibility of a third instalment of the show, Alison said: ‘I don’t think imminently. I think she’s going to rest it.

‘What she did was, she filmed the first two parts, and the holiday special, all at the same time.

‘I hear talk of another idea which she is interested in doing, which will centre more around lifestyle and travel – so we are going back to her days with The Tig.’

Meghan’s lifestyle show failed to break into Netflix’s top 300 programmes for the first half of 2025 and was even thrashed by multiple seasons of Suits. The numbers watching were ‘dismal’, an insider at the streamer reportedly said.

Referencing the trailer for the next instalment of Meghan’s Netflix series, Richard Eden, the Daily Mail’s Diary Editor, said: ‘What did strike me was how much of a contrast this was to the TV appearances of her husband, Prince Harry.’

Speaking on the hit YouTube show, Richard said: ‘The last time we saw him, he was being interviewed by the BBC, moaning, complaining, looking desperately unhappy about his lost appeal.

‘And then we have the complete contrast with Meghan, who is upbeat and jolly, as if “everything is great”.

‘You think: “Wow, is this really a couple? They’re just so different.”‘

Elsewhere in the episode, Richard Eden spoke about how Harry left his mark at the National Memorial Arboretum despite not being there.

‘This was quite extraordinary,’ he said.

‘The Royal Family were represented by the King and Queen. But Prince Harry was determined to leave his mark there as well.

‘A few days later, it emerged via a TV news channel that Harry had had a wreath placed with a tribute to his grandfather at the service at the arboretum.

‘There was a long letter, printed and covered up in plastic so it could be read.

‘It was clearly left with a view that people could read it. It seemed quite an odd thing to do, frankly.’

The Daily Mail’s Editor at Large Richard Kay added: ‘What struck me about that was, there was definitely a sense that there was a gap in the line-up of royals on show at the ceremony.

‘No Prince William, no Princess Kate. Was Harry filling that gap? Was it a stunt, in other words? It’s the kind of thing he has done in the past.

‘It was obviously placed there with the intention that it would be discovered and remarked and reported on, which of course it has been.’

‘This is not the first time this has happened,’ said Richard Eden.

‘The reason this is genuinely significant is because in 2021, Prince Harry requested that a wreath be left on his behalf at the National War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday.

‘This was vetoed by his grandmother because her view was “you’re either in or out”.

‘She prevented him from doing that, so it’s very significant that he’s felt the need to do this, and that he has been allowed to.

‘I’ve written about how it has raised concerns at the Palace. It shows how the King needs to be firmer with his son, just as Queen Elizabeth was.’

Richard Eden said, ‘To me, it shows that Harry can’t be trusted.

‘Despite all the warm words about cooperation and the cosy meeting between representatives of the King and of Harry and Meghan, he’s doing this without the Royal Family knowing.’

Richard Kay added: ‘From what we understand, Harry used a friend to deliver the wreath on his behalf.

‘I don’t think the Palace knew this was going to happen.

‘I have to add, the words he wrote were incredibly moving – it wasn’t just about his grandfather, it was about the whole Far Eastern Campaign.

He wrote about what he had learned from his grandfather about the privations, all that the soldiers of the so-called “forgotten army” and the sailors went through.

‘He was referencing all of that, but the question comes back, “why did he feel the need to do it?” because it was inevitable it would be found out.’
