Karen Read murder case verdict reached after deadlocked first trial

Karen Read has spoken publicly for the first time since being acquitted in the death of her boyfriend, Boston police officer John O’Keefe, pledging to fight back against those she believes framed her. With civil lawsuits on the horizon, she has sent a message of defiance to Massachusetts prosecutors.

In a defiant message, she vowed to pursue civil lawsuits against those she alleges framed her while strongly criticizing Massachusetts prosecutors.

“You lost. You lost big time. And you know what you did,” Read said during an interview on “The Howie Carr Show.”

Read appeared alongside her lawyer, Alan Jackson, who confirmed they are developing an extensive civil case. This could potentially target the Massachusetts State Police, the Norfolk County District Attorney’s Office, and individuals associated with the investigation.

Read was given a year of probation following her drunken driving conviction. She is currently facing a wrongful death lawsuit from O’Keefe’s family, which her civil defense team has asked the court to dismiss earlier this month.

The situation prompted residents of Canton, Massachusetts, to call for an independent evaluation of their police department. The audit did not find evidence of a conspiracy against Read but did point out several procedural errors. These included failing to photograph the victim’s body before it was moved, not properly securing the scene, and conducting witness interviews outside of official premises.

The Massachusetts State Police initiated an internal investigation into lead homicide detective Michael Proctor, who was dismissed for sharing confidential information with individuals outside of law enforcement and consuming alcohol while on duty. He is currently appealing his termination.
