Also joining Johannes and Edward on stage was Felix Daglish, another Duke of Edinburgh programme alumnus.

Edward wore a black jacket and suit trousers to complete his look, wearing a pocket square.

He clutched onto an umbrella and opted for smart but sensible black shoes for the occasion.

These events are the first in-person parties held for gold award holders since the pandemic.

Prince Edward has long had an affinity with the scheme and many years ago it was announced that his mother and Prince Philip wanted him to take on the Duke of Edinburgh title.

When Charles is King, it will be him who makes the decision as to whether Prince Edward gets the title.

Prince Edward yesterday watched on as his wife Sophie and daughter Lady Louise took part in some carriage driving on the fourth day of the Royal Windsor Horse Show.

The 58-year-old was also photographed handing out prizes for the Land Rover International Driving competition.

The Wessex’s were also in attendance on Friday and Saturday, with Sophie seen taking photographs of her daughter Lady Louise as she drove the Duke of Edinburgh’s carriage and led the Fell Pony Society centenary parade.
