Eschewing jewels and extravagant dresses, Princess Charlotte opted for a much more relaxed outfit for her official 10th birthday which was portrait released on Friday.

Sat on a patch of grass during a hike in Cumbria earlier this year, a photo of the young royal, which was taken by her mother Kate, showed her with windswept hair and a bargain-priced jacket.

Breaking from the traditional formal dress, skirts and jumpers of previous years, the Prince and Princess of Wales’s daughter wore a pair of dark blue jeans and a sporty rucksack.

But the most interesting part of her outfit was her £37 (reduced from £45.95) Jack Pyke children’s ‘Evolution Camo’ jacket.

Available from online retailers including Lakeland Country and New Forest clothing, the ensemble comes in four different sizes, starting from age five and going up to 12 years old.

The coat includes a full length zip with press stud cover flap, a hood with an elasticated draw string, cuffs and pockets.

Receiving a 4.75 review on New Forest Clothing, others who bought the jacket praised its fit and the camouflage with one person noting it was great for his son’s fishing trips.

And this isn’t the first time the young royal has opted for more affordable clothes and accessories.

On Christmas Day last year the then nine-year-old was spotted wearing a £22 healing necklace from high street brand Accessorize which featured amethyst, rose quartz and onyx, for the annual Christmas Day church service at Sandringham.

Charlotte’s stylish choices suggests she is following in the fashionable footsteps of her mother, who is known for her love of high street fashion brands.

And while many royal fans noticed the change in style and her bargain coat, others pointed out another sweet detail in the birthday portrait.

Fans flocked to social media to share that they think Princess Charlotte has another royal lookalike – her father Prince William.

Commenting on the picture shared to X, a wellwisher penned: ‘Wow she really looks like her old man’, and ‘Wow! She is 100 per cent William when he was her age! Incredible. Happy birthday Princess Charlotte’.

Another said: ‘Princess Charlotte is the female version of young Prince William.

‘Papa William’s mini me forever’, another gushed, whilst one also commented: ‘Happy birthday Princess Charlotte! So much like her dad’.

Another read: ‘Princess Charlotte is just divine and beautiful. She’s the image of William’, and other pointed out the similarity to her mother, Kate as well, commenting, ‘She is the spitting image of Prince William with Catherine’s hair’.

‘Happy Birthday to Princess Charlotte!’ a greeting read. ‘She bears a striking resemblance to William – definitely daddy’s girl!’. Another chimed in: ‘Prince William really said copy and paste’.

Others illustrated the similarities with pictures of the father and daughter side by side, captioning their posts: ‘Princess Charlotte really is her dad’s twin! So cute’.

One person also noticed a likeness between the young princess and her grandmother, writing: ‘Happy Birthday to Princess Charlotte who looks so much like her dad, Prince William, who looks like his mother Princess Diana’.

And it wasn’t just their faces that looked similar but also the khaki attire Charlotte sported for the snap.

Prince William was also photographed wearing army-style uniform when he was younger and in one sweet snap was seen posing in the army uniform of the Parachute Regiment of the British Army and saluting.

In anther family snap he was seen in khaki uniform once again, sat on a step with his brother Prince Harry.

Charlotte is third in line to the throne and set, one day, to be Princess Royal, following in the footsteps of her great aunt, Princess Anne – and many think she would be a natural successor to the role.

Because of changes in 2013 to the rules concerning the order of succession that mean male heirs are no longer prioritised above female heirs, Charlotte, born in 2015, became the first British princess to rank above a younger brother.

Her full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana and she was born in the Lindo Wing of St Mary’s Hospital in Paddington, London, at 8.34am on May 2, 2015, weighing a very healthy 8lb 3oz.

The princess attends the co-educational private Lambrook School near Ascot in Berkshire with her siblings, but sources have previously told the Mail that her parents have an eye on Catherine’s old boarding school, Marlborough, for her in the future.

She has already won the hearts of fans for her elegant deportment in public, and is often seen in charge of her brothers, particularly little Louis, at big family events.

It is anticipated that all three will be seen at Monday’s VE Day 80 celebrations.

Today’s photo marks a return to the children’s portraits being taken by Kate, a keen amateur photographer who regularly takes images of her children to mark official occasions.
