S Club 7 was hilariously trending on Twitter shortly after Prime Minister Boris Johnson appeared in another televised statement, easing lockdown restrictions further.
Speaking on Thursday night, Boris announced that from Monday groups of six people will be allowed to meet outside while sticking to social distancing guidelines.
It was a fairly simple statement and an easing of the rules that was probably welcomed by all, but some people just couldn’t resist the opportunity to make a joke… and at S Club 7’s expense.
To be fair, it is pretty funny.
Tweets came flooding in with people expressing their concerns for the seven-piece band – made up of Rachel Stevens, Bradley McIntosh, Hannah Spearritt, Jo O’Meara, Jon Lee, Paul Cattermole and Tina Barrett – who it looks like will have to wait it out a little longer for that reunion.
‘From Monday groups of 6 can meet. Terrible news for S Club 7,’ tweeted one person.
One concerned fan only had one reaction to Boris’ speech: ‘How are S Club 7 going to meet up?’
‘Yes it’s great that up to six people can meet in public but it’s not helping S Club 7 is it,’ joked one fan.
While one more couldn’t resist tweeted: ‘Just been informed that Tina was chosen to sit out next week’s S Club 7 group meeting.’
Another teased: ‘They really don’t want S Club 7 reforming don’t they?!’
Well in the words of themselves, S Club… don’t stop, never give up. Sorry, couldn’t resist.
Boris announced in his latest lockdown update that people in England are allowed to meet in ‘bubbles’ of six from different households – as long as it is outdoors and maintaining a two-metre social distance.
Meeting in private outdoor spaces is also allowed, with people allowed to pass through the house to get to the garden and use the toilet.
It comes as the UK has passed five tests allowing the next phase of easing of lockdown to take place.
There are currently 269,000 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the UK, with the number of deaths now reaching over 37,800.
