Get ready to start your engines. Brad Pitt’s Formula One film, F1: The Movie, raced into theaters on Friday, June 27. As an Apple Original Film, it will eventually be available to stream on Apple TV+ and other digital sites. But how long will viewers have to wait to watch F1 from the comfort of their homes?

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, F1 The Movie stars Pitt as Sonny Hayes, one of the most promising race car drivers of the 1990s until an accident on the track almost ended his career for good. Thirty years later, the racer-for-hire driver is approached by his old teammate Ruben Cervantes (Javier Bardem), who owns a struggling Formula 1 team at risk of shutting down.

“Ruben convinces Sonny to come back to Formula 1 for one last shot at saving the team and being the best in the world. He’ll drive alongside Joshua Pearce (Damson Idris), the team’s hotshot rookie intent on setting his own pace,” the official synopsis reads. “But as the engines roar, Sonny’s past catches up with him and he finds that in FORMULA 1, your teammate is your fiercest competition — and the road to redemption is not something you can travel alone.”

In addition to Pitt, Bardem, and Elba, the cast also includes Kerry Condon, Tobias Menzies, Sarah Niles, Kim Bodnia, and Samson Kayo. Last week, news broke that Bridgerton star Simone Ashley’s scenes were cut from the final version of the film, sparking confusion and outrage from her fans.

When asked about the switch-up, Kosinski told People that it “happens on every film” and there were “two or three storylines that ultimately didn’t make into the final cut.” The director continued, “But Simone, she’s an incredible talent, incredible actress, incredible singer, and I would love to work with her again.”

So far, F1: The Movie has been a hit among both critics and audiences. The film holds an 83% critics score based on 237 reviews and a 97% audience score from more than 2,500 ratings on Rotten Tomatoes.

New York Post critic Johnny Oleksinski praised the F1’s realistic racing sequences in his review: “The races look real, breathtakingly so, and are edited like a bat out of hell. Most importantly, the viewer fully believes Pitt and Idris are actually driving these cars,” he wrote.

How To Watch F1 The Movie Right Now

F1 The Movie premiered exclusively in theaters on Friday, June 27, 2025. Currently, the only way to watch the film is in movie theaters. Check your local cinemas for specific showtimes.

When Will F1 The Movie Be Streaming On Apple TV+?

F1: The Movie is an Apple Original Film, which means it will eventually stream on Apple TV+. The film will likely become available on the platform 70 to 100 days — or approximately two to three months — after its theatrical premiere. According to this estimate, F1 could begin streaming on Apple TV+ in late August or early fall 2025.

If you look at other Apple Original Films for comparison, Killers of the Flower Moon (2023) became available after 84 days, Argylle (2024) after 70 days, and Napoleon (2023) after 100 days. Wolfs (2024) landed on Apple’s streaming service just one week after its limited theatrical release. Fly Me to the Moon (2024) had the longest theatrical-to-Apple TV+ window at 147 days or just over four months.

If F1 performs well in theaters, it could have an extended run before arriving on Apple’s streaming platform. The sports drama, which has a hefty $200 million budget, is aiming for a $50 to $60 million opening weekend, according to Variety. The studio will likely work to maximize box office revenue before shifting F1: The Movie to streaming.

When Will F1 The Movie Be Streaming On Digital?

Before F1: The Movie begins streaming on Apple TV+ for subscribers, the racing drama will likely be available to purchase or rent on digital platforms like Prime Video, Apple TV+ and Fandango at Home even sooner — typically about 45 to 65 days after its theatrical premiere. That means fans could be watching F1 from the comfort of their homes as early as Monday, August 11, 2025.

Stay tuned to find out exactly when F1: The Movie will be available to stream.
