In Chicago, a routine operation by Border Patrol agents took a dangerous turn when they were fired upon by an unidentified individual, as revealed in a Department of Homeland Security update on X.

The statement detailed that agents were carrying out immigration enforcement near the intersection of 26th Street and Kedzie Avenue when a man in a black Jeep opened fire and then sped away.

Additionally, the department noted that during the incident, several agitators launched a flurry of attacks on Border Patrol vehicles, using paint cans and bricks. Protesters were reported to have thrown further items, including another paint can and brick.

The suspect, driving a black Jeep, shot at the agents, resulting in two arrests. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported.

This incident unfolded in Chicago’s Little Village, an area known for its predominantly Mexican-American population.

Before the Chicago police restored order, the protestors had also targeted ICE patrol vehicles with a barrage of paint and bricks.

‘The shooter and vehicle remain at large, and this is a dynamic situation,’ the agency said in a statement just after 1:30pm.

‘This incident is not isolated and reflects a growing and dangerous trend of violence and obstruction,’ DHS said.

‘Over the past two months, we’ve seen an increase in assaults and obstruction targeting federal law enforcement during operations. These confrontations highlight the dangers our agents face daily and the escalating aggression toward law enforcement. The violence must end.’
