Ange Postecoglou has emerged as one of the frontrunners to take over at Leeds United following the sacking of manager Jesse Marsch.

The Celtic boss – who is chasing back-to-back league titles in Scotland – has reportedly impressed numerous Premier League clubs in England thanks to his enterprising style of football.

According to Betfair, current West Bromwich Albion Championship manager Carlos Corberan (3/1) is the favourite to occupy the hot seat at Elland Road, ahead of Marcelo Bielsa (5/1), Ralph Hasenhuttl (6/1) and Mauricio Pochettino (6/1).

Postecoglou is rated a 15/2 chance.

Leeds currently sit in 17th spot, only out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

A 1-0 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest last weekend sealed Marsch’s fate, with the American said to be visibly shaken when informed he was no longer in charge.

Marsch, 49, was summoned to a crisis meeting at the club’s Thorp Arch training centre on Monday.

Chief executive Angus Kinnear and sporting director Victor Orta then informed Marsch his time was up.

Corberan, who was assistant to Marcelo Bielsa and Under-23s coach during his three years at Elland Road from 2017 onwards, is said to be keen for a return – but Kinnear and Orta may opt for a fresh start, opening the door for Postecoglou.

The 57-year-old was also in the mix for the top job at Everton after Frank Lampard was sacked on January 23.

Lampard was eventually replaced by Sean Dyche at Goodison Park.

Postecoglou’s Celtic FC thumped St Johnstone 4-1 over the weekend to ensure their nine-point lead at the top of the table over bitter rivals Rangers remained in tact.

Socceroos midfielder Aaron Mooy was on the score sheet in a performance that collectively oozed class.

‘There is more to come from all of them,’ Postecoglou said.

‘There is no reason for them to be content with what they had already done so far and all of them should want to improve and my role is to make sure that they do that.’

The Bhoys have been found wanting at some stages this season – especially in the UEFA Champions League – but it has been noted under ‘Aussie Ange’ they still find ways to win in Scotland.

They have lost just once in 25 league games, scoring 78 goals along the way and conceding just 18.

Postegoclou, the former Socceroos boss, guided the national team to an AFC Asian Cup title in 2015 on home soil and the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

He also delivered two titles to Brisbane Roar in the A-League.
