Tottenham Hotspur head coach Ange Postecoglou is not worried about Son Heung-min’s finger injury, insisting he will continue to play even if it comes off altogether.

Son dislocated one of his fingers during a confrontation with international teammate Lee Kang-in while away with South Korea at the Asian Cup last month and has since been playing with it strapped up.

The 31-year-old put in a standout performance in Spurs’ 3-1 win against Crystal Palace on Saturday, scoring his side’s third goal to put the win beyond doubt.

In his post-match press conference, Postecoglou was asked if Son was in any further discomfort and if he’s keeping an eye on the injury.

“It’s a finger. Even if he loses it, don’t really matter,” Postecoglou said with deadpan delivery before the press room filled with laughter. “He can still play, he’s fine.”

However, Postecoglou did reveal that midfielder Pape Matar Sarr – who was dropped from the starting lineup and only played the final 15 minutes from the bench – had been struggling with a back issue of late, though this wasn’t of serious concern.

“He’s had a bit of a back issue since he got back from the Africa Cup of Nations,” Postecoglou said of Sarr. “He’s been dealing with it and it’s getting better but it’s not sort of totally free, so it’s something we’re working on with him.

“It doesn’t stop him training, he’s still been training, but it does restrict him, it’s something we’re constantly working on but from what I understand he’ll be fine. Like I said he hasn’t missed training so it’s just something we’re working on with him.”

Tottenham return to action on Sunday with a trip to top-four rivals Aston Villa. Spurs head into the contest five points behind their hosts but with a game in hand.
