Arsenal are monitoring Ajax defender Lisandro Martinez but the Dutch club have raised their asking price above £35m amid interest from Manchester United as Mikel Arteta seeks a left-sided centre-back

  • Arsenal are chasing the Argentina international to bolster their defence
  • Club are believed to want a left-sided centre back to support Gabriel
  • Manchester United are now believed to have become interested in the player

Arsenal want Ajax centre back Lisandro Martinez but the Dutch club have raised his price tag above £35million amid interest from Manchester United.

Marseille are interested in Gunners defender Nuno Tavares, Fulham want goalkeeper Bernd Leno and defender Dan Ballard is joining Burnley for £3m.

Martinez is a much-coveted left-sided centre back who can also play at left-back. It is believed that Arsenal wish to buy cover for the left-sided centre-back spot this summer.

They are well stocked on the right of their defence, with Ben White, William Saliba and Rob Holding all comfortable there. However, their only option on the left side of the middle is Gabriel and as such they wish to add a player in that area.

Meanwhile, Gabriel Jesus is edging closer to a move to Arsenal after the north London club agreed a fee of around £45m for the player with Manchester City.

Raphinha is another target for the club and it was suggested on Saturday that Arsenal are now viewed as clear favourites to land the Brazilian. It had been expected that he would go to Barcelona but owing to their financial woes that move has not materialised.
