Chelsea will have to lower their asking price to sell Conor Gallagher to Atletico Madrid.

As exclusively revealed by talkSPORT last week, the Blues are in talks with Atletico about a potential move to the Spanish capital.

As of now, Chelsea are steadfast in seeking a deal exceeding £50 million, whereas Diego Simeone’s team is prepared to offer up to £40 million.

As negotiations continue, Gallagher is understood to be relaxed about his future even though his current contract expires next summer.

Chelsea sees the England midfielder and their academy product Trevoh Chalobah, who was excluded from their USA pre-season tour, as key players they can sell to alleviate any PSR concerns.

Patience with Southgate successor search

The FA are in no rush to appoint Gareth Southgate’s successor, who left his role at the end of Euro 2024.

It means current Under-21 boss Lee Carsley is highly likely to be in the dugout for the start of the Nations League in September.

According to talkSPORT, the list for potential replacements for Southgate in the England vacancy is still in the works, and the decision-makers are committed to a comprehensive selection process.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe seemingly being given assurances about his role by the club’s Saudi owners makes a move for him more difficult, given the Magpies would demand significant compensation.

Former Chelsea manager Graham Potter is another British candidate for the job, while Mauricio Pochettino is keen should the FA opt to go down the foreign route.

Carsley is also highly-regarded having led the Under-21s to Euros glory a year ago, and a plan for the ex-Republic of Ireland midfielder to step up at least on an interim basis has already been drafted.

Ironically, England’s next game is against Ireland in Dublin in the Nations League on September 7.

Tottenham ruin West Ham transfer plan

West Ham’s summer of frustration looks set to continue with the club on the verge of pulling out of the race for Leeds winger Crysencio Summerville, 22.

The Hammers are one of a number of clubs keen to sign last season’s Championship Player of the Year, but have so far not been prepared to pay more than £20million.

With Leeds boosted finally by Archie Gray’s £40million move to Tottenham, they are willing to hold their nerve and ask for a similar fee for Summerville, which is likely to prove too rich for the east Londoners.

It is already proving a difficult window for West Ham technical director Tim Steidten having seen a number of potential moves fall through, including Nice defender Jean-Clair Todibo and Bayern Munich full-back Noussair Mazraoui.

Keane eyes touchline return

Robbie Keane is ready to return to the dugout and open to taking his first managerial role in England, talkSPORT understands.

Keane has quietly put together an impressive managerial CV having led Maccabi Tel Aviv to the Israeli league title and into the last 16 of last season’s Europa Conference League.

The Republic of Ireland legend also boosts a better points per game ratio than a number of high-profile out-of-work managers including Zinedine Zidane, Xavi and Champions League finalist Edin Terzic.

He decided to leave Israel at the end of the season having at one stage been hauled up for hours in a panic room due to the ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas.
