Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni has dismissed claims that Barcelona’s Gavi was responsible for the foot injury he sustained during Saturday’s El Clasico.

Tchouameni played the full 90 minutes of Madrid’s 2-1 victory but it was revealed after the game that he had suffered  a stress fracture to the second metatarsal in his left foot and is now facing two months on the sidelines.

Fans believed they had spotted the moment where the injury occurred during a tussle with Gavi but Tchouameni has now denied that this was the case.

The Frenchman’s injury is a big blow to Madrid, who now have one fit recognised defensive midfielder in the form of Eduardo Camavinga.

Jude Bellingham scored twice as Los Blancos came from behind to beat their arch-rivals.

The victory leaves Madrid top of the table, ahead of Girona on goal difference and four points clear of Barca.

They face Rayo Vallecano next on Sunday night before turning their attention back to the Champions League against Braga on Wednesday night.
