Barcelona hope to bring Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich to the Nou Camp and play him alongside Ilkay Gundogan.

Kimmich’s current deal expires in 2025 but is reportedly unlikely to extend it, with Bayern unable to find a way to convince the player, according to Fichajes.

The uncertainty around the player has given a boost to Barcelona as they look to strengthen their midfield options – and Kimmich is a player that has been identified by Nou Camp chiefs.

Mail Sport understands it would be seen as a huge positive if Kimmich was brought in alongside his Germany team-mate Gundogan as boss Xavi seeks more experienced players with a history of winning trophies and titles.

He currently has Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, Pedri and Oriel Romeu as players who can feature in the middle of the park, but having someone as successful and versatile as Kimmich would be a boost.

Xavi is a huge fan of Kimmich and Thomas Tuchel would not stand in his way should he request an exit – as long as the deal was right for Bayern.

Kimmich, who can also play in defence, has made 362 appearances for Bayern since making his debut in 2015.

During that time, he has won the Bundesliga title eight times and lifted the Champions League in 2019-20.

News of his potential pairing with Gundogan comes after the former Man City midfielder laid into his team-mates for their poor response in their 2-1 loss to Madrid.

Gundogan said: ‘Of course people are disappointed but after such a big game, and such result, I wish there was more anger, frustration and disappointment.

‘There has to be more emotion, especially when you lose.

‘You know you can do better in certain situations and you don’t react, and this transfers to the pitch at the end of the day.’
