A bizarre moment unfolded in the Dutch third division on Tuesday after Noordwijk goalkeeper Lars Jansen scored a sensational goal from inside his own half during their 3-1 victory against Amsterdamsche FC.

Noordwijk had not won in their previous eight fixtures, but thanks in part to the heroics of their goalkeeper, claimed a victory on the road even after going a goal down.

Soufiane Hetli put the hosts a goal up within nine minutes, before Dylan Rietveld hit back in the 71st minute to bring Noordwijk level.

It was a risky pass, with an oncoming attacker chasing down the ball and seemingly came close to retaking possession, before Jansen stepped up to clear his lines.

The goalkeeper charged forward and booted the ball upfield, perhaps not expecting the outcome of his clearance, and collided with the oncoming attacker.

The goalkeeper subsequently fell to the ground and appearing to be in some pain after the collision.

At the other end of the field, Amsterdamsche’s goalkeeper Gijs van Zetten had stepped off his line and was caught off guard by the strike.

As the ball flew towards his goal, he was seen scrambling to try and keep the clearance out, but to no avail.

It flew over the top of his head and into the back of the net with the Noordwijk team subsequently sprinting towards Jansen who was still lying on the floor at the other end of the pitch.

Celebrations ensued as his team-mates came over to pat him on the back and lift him up from the ground.

Jansen appeared to quizzically sit up, seemingly unaware of what had just transpired.

Noordwijk went on to score again in the 88th minute through Ruben Marbus, to help them end their eight-match run without a victory.

While Jansen’s strike perhaps might not beat the goalscoring feats of Rene Higuita or Carlisle United’s Jimmy Glass, it was certainly a sensational moment.
