Bayern Munich will be glad to see the back of the 2023/24 Bundesliga season as they find themselves in the rare position of chasing a lost cause, with Bayer Leverkusen currently ten points ahead at the top.

Thomas Tuchel’s side are now playing to ensure they finish in second place and go as far as possible in the Champions League, but Borussia Dortmund have targets of their own and will arrive at the Allianz Arena on Saturday with a point to prove.

Here’s the Bayern lineup Tuchel may choose against Borussia Dortmund.

Joshua Kimmich

GK: Sven Ulreich – Manuel Neuer won’t be fit enough to start against Dortmund and is instead targeting a return against Arsenal in the Champions League. Ulreich will be back between the sticks while the German legend recovers, having played a lot more games than expected this season.

RB: Joshua Kimmich – With Boey and Mazraoui both out, Tuchel will have to move Kimmich into the right-back slot. His versatility will be appreciated by whoever takes over from Tuchel at Bayern, but there’s no guarantee he will still be at the club come 2024/25.

CB: Eric Dier – The Englishman has taken to life in Germany well, providing genuine competition to some very good defenders. Dier will be around next season too, having triggered an appearance clause.

CB: Matthijs de Ligt – There has been plenty of speculation about De Ligt’s future but he put a lot of that to bed during the international break, saying: “No, I am very happy at FC Bayern. The club and the fans have always given me a lot of love. I feel good now.”

LB: Alphonso Davies – His agent seems to be at war with Bayern and Davies’ time in Germany may come to an ugly end. Nonetheless, he’s their best left-back and Tuchel doesn’t need to work with the future in mind.

CM: Konrad Laimer – Endeared himself to the fans this week by saying: “I had a great time in Leipzig. But Bayern is something bigger – one of the biggest clubs in Europe with the biggest goals.” He will get a spot in midfield with Kimmich needed at right-back.

CM: Leon Goretzka – The midfielder has a huge task ahead of him in the next few months. Euro 2024 in his home nation is fast approaching, but Goretzka wasn’t called up to the Germany squad in March.

RW: Leroy Sane – The former Manchester City man has completed the most dribbles in Europe this season, showing he is one of few Bayern players who has pulled his weight this season.

AM: Thomas Muller – Playing more regularly in the latter half of the season after what has been his most frustrating campaign in a Bayern shirt. He may be ageing but Muller remains a very valuable asset for both Bayern and Germany.

LW: Jamal Musiala – On the aforementioned list of successful dribbles in Europe, Musiala is third with 79. It has been a tough season but the youngster has continued to develop very well and more stories about his future are bound to arise in the summer.

ST: Harry Kane – Had to leave England duty early due to a minor injury but Kane is fit enough to start against Dortmund and will be feeling confident, having scored a hat-trick in the reverse fixture.
