Todd Boehly looked a world away from the director’s box at Stamford Bridge as he posed for photographs alongside a raft of Hollywood stars at the 2024 Golden Globes on Sunday night.

Chelsea’s co-controlling owner is the chief executive of Eldridge Industries, the holding company which owns Dick Clark Productions, the organisation that has produced the awards show since 1987.

Eldridge first became involved with the production company in 2015, and in 2021, served as the interim president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, the organisation which founded the ceremony in 1943.

Boehly walked the red carpet alongside Golden Globes president Helen Hoehne, who was re-elected to the role in August 2022.

A night out in Beverly Hills might have served to pull necessary focus away from the January transfer window at the west London club, and the deals in motion as the Blues prepare to challenge in the second-half of the season.

Mail Sport reported on Monday that Conor Gallagher remains keen to stay on at Chelsea despite heavy links between the midfielder and crosstown rivals Tottenham and reports that the academy product may be sold to raise funds for a striker during the window.

Gallagher has been a regular starter under Mauricio Pochettino and in the absence of an injury-stricken Reece James, has often sported the captain’s armband.

But as the 23-year-old represents pure profit as a homegrown player, Gallagher could yet leave Stamford Bridge along with Ian Maatsen and Trevoh Chalobah, who are also being readied for sale.

Taking the decision not to agree a new contract with the midfielder could prove an unpopular one with the Chelsea faithful, as Gallagher has been in impressive form throughout a challenging season at the club.

However, Pochettino gave supporters a glimpse of hope on Monday afternoon when he shared that he did not believe the club would have to sell players to fund potential transfers, despite concerns over Financial Fair Play regulations.

‘Look, you know there are too many rumours about things going around the clubs,’ Pochettino said. ‘It is not what they (the hierarchy) translate to me. It is not necessary to sell if we want to buy some players.’

California will feel about a million miles away from Chelsea’s next appointment, should Boehly decide to keep track of their Carabao Cup campaign in person.

Pochettino’s squad are due to travel to Middlesbrough’s Riverside Stadium on Tuesday night to play the first leg of their semi-final away from home.
