Having spent quite a lot of money over the last few years, Chelsea’s new ownership probably would’ve expected a bit more from their team in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday.

The Blues went into the final buoyed by the prospect of facing off against an injury Liverpool who were without the services of Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Darwin Nunez among others.

And while Chelsea had their moments during the game at Wembley, they ultimately faulted when it mattered, allowing an extremely under-strength Liverpool to run out 1-0 winners in extra-time.

Here’s Chelsea’s best and worst players from the cup final loss, according to 90min’s player ratings:

Has their been a game this season in which Cole Palmer hasn’t been Chelsea’s best player?

Probably not.

Palmer was, by quite a distance, Chelsea’s most active threat in the final third, having five shots on goal and having 87 touches.

Should he have converted one of those five shots? Yeah probably, but at least he was trying to score; which is a lot more than can be said for some of his attacking teammates.

Two accurate passes, 11 touches, four lost duals, zero accurate crosses.

An extra time cameo to forget for one of the many players that cost Chelsea way, way more than he should’ve.

Following a sublime performance against Manchester City recently, a lot was expect of Disasi heading into the Carabao Cup final.

And considering he lost Virgil van Dijk in the lead up to the winning goal, it’s fair to say that he underperformed on the day.
