Cole Palmer, a prominent Chelsea footballer, is entangled in an unexpected legal dispute that has surprised many fans. The athlete is challenging Château Palmer, a renowned French vineyard, over his bid to trademark his own nickname.

The English midfielder sought to trademark his well-known “ice cold” goal celebration and the nickname “Cold Palmer,” intending to create a line of merchandise that includes apparel, toiletries, and even alcoholic beverages, as reported by The Sun.

However, the Bordeaux vineyard, whose wine bottles can fetch thousands of pounds, has officially contested this application, claiming that Palmer’s proposed products might infringe on their long-standing brand.

The dispute is now with the UK Intellectual Property Office, which will review submissions from both sides before making a ruling.

The vineyard has a rich history, having been established in 1814 when British Army officer Charles Palmer bought the then-named Château de Gascq estate. He later expanded the vineyard and renamed it after himself.

While Cole Palmer is famous for his remarkable performances on the football field, rather than a penchant for wine, this intriguing legal battle—Palmer versus Palmer, Claret against Blue—may not resolve in his favor based on football skills alone.
