Manchester United goalkeeper David De Gea has hailed his sides ‘fighting spirit’ and insists his team have ‘not given up’ in their fight to finish in the top four.

Cristiano Ronaldo netted a hat-trick for the Red Devils as they edged past Norwich City 3-2 at Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

De Gea, 31, has been key figure for Ralf Rangnick’s side throughout their lacklustre campaign, saving them on several occasions this season.

The Madrid-born shot-stopper claimed even though his side are not performing to the required levels, the three points over Dean Smith’s side were vital in their pursuit to reach the top four.

‘We know we aren’t playing very well but we got three points. We should control the game more against Norwich at home’, De Gea to’d BBC’s MOTD.

‘A massive win for us. We still have a chance to finish top four and we have to fight for it. We will fight for the top four until the last second.

‘We know we are not at our best moment. The most important thing is the victory and we are closer to the top four.

‘The spirit is there. Everyone is dropping points ups and won so we have a chance. It’s not enough to be in the top four. We should control the game from the beginning and not give them chances. We give chances to every team so we have to improve a lot.

‘We take the three points and let’s see on Tuesday [away to Liverpool]. I hope this victory gives us more confidence. We want to go there and try and win.’

The Red Devils head to Anfield on Tuesday night to take on Jurgen Klopp’s Reds. Title-chasing Liverpool are 19 points ahead of United in the Premier League, and are going in search of a famous quadruple.
